Trying to decide on a original CJ5 1966 model or a newer '85-'87 jeep?

The '66 CJ5 can be purchased for around $1,500 dollars, body and frame are in decent shape minimal rust, has original hurricane 4-banger. and hard top. I'm concerned with the ability to upgrade this jeep economically vs upgrades to a newer jeep.

I also have the option of picking up a '85-'87 jeep for $3,500 all stock with a hard top (not sure of drive train or motor) body is in good shape original wheels etc.

I'm not afraid of the work both jeeps will need motor upgrades I'm sure.
