1965 CJ5 Engine Question??????

I am a complete newbie to the jeep world. I just bought a 1965 CJ5 that runs and drives great for $800. It has a Buick odd-fire V6 engine and the owner claims it is the original engine. Now I know that these jeeps were produced with 4 cyl. but I have heard that a few were made with the V6. I dont really care if its original or not, what I want to know is:

Is the Buick odd-fire V6 in my CJ5 the same thing as the Buick Dauntless V6?

Like I said, I'm a noob and Im a bit confused. So any information will be extremely helpful!

Thanks in advance!

yes, some of them were produced with the Dauntless (Buick) V6 installed at the factory. congrats on finding one in such good running condition at a great price!

they came with either the buick v6 or the 134 ci f-head 4 cyl. my 60 model has the 134 and 3 spd. 45 mph is all it will do but that's up hill, down hill, side ways or upside down. it seems that the 6 cyl is a little harder to find, but its really hard to find an early cj5 around here period.

Best motor ever installed in a CJ, and that is saying something considering the 258. Gobs of low end torque and plenty of ponies to boot. One of the best upgrades you can do is install an HEI from a 76 Buick Starfire, Skyhawk, or any oddfire Buick car between 76 and 77.
The stock Rochester 2G series is an excellent carb, both mileage and offroading. There are a number of aftermarket 4BBL manifolds out there, both new and used (obsolete). The larger carb makes a difference in the upper end. I run a Q jet on mine with very good results.
