1962 CJ5 Axles

I am new to the 4-wheeling adventure just bought my CJ5 as a fixes upper. Can anybody tell me what axles came stock under the CJ5 in 1962 or where to look this information up on the internet.

Thanks

Hey!

I believe that '55-'65 CJ-5's had a two-piece 10 splined dana 44 in the rear, and a 10 splined dana 25 in the front.

If your running gear is stock, you probably have an offset Dana/Spicer 18 transfer case, which means an off-set rear differential. I don't know if those axles are upgradeable to the newer 30-spline version, as those dana 44's were centered. (see my post and question if you know!)

Unfortunately, most newer lockers come for the 30 spline dana 44.

Hope this helps!

The rear is a 19 spline two piece D44. the front is probably a 10 spline 27A(the model is cast in the webbing next to the diff cover). While I think j t king is right about the newer lockers, spicer made a PowerLok that was optional in Jeeps and Scouts. These are super strong(a must with the 27A)and are still out there.
