I have began work on my doors. I took a different set off my pile, instead of using the other ones I have already worked on simply because these are straighter.

Wha, Wha, WHAT???
Your doors were outside under the snow. . .
Glad to see you reclaimed them though.

OH yeah anyone want a running f-head engine? $150 a pop (I got 3, see back round of last pic) plus freight shipping, or you p/u also the 161ci 6 cyl needs to go....$8.50/hundred at the scrap yard it looking better and better for them every day!

Hope you decide not to scrap them. . .I know not everyone is looking for them (I'm certainly not. . .) but it's a shame to see vintage iron getting scrapped. . .
. . .I'm right there with you though. . .I've got the original Timken 1-ton rear axle and the original D25 front axle that I can't seem to get rid of. . .and the scrap heap is tempting, but I'm gonna hold onto them for someone who needs them for restoration. . .I'd practically give them away to someone who could pick them up and was going to use them for a restoration.

What made you want to initially retard the timing 15 degrees from stock? I know you raised your compression .8:1, but that would explain the big loss in power... Glad things are running good again. If it were me, I'd run it on the stock setting and see how it acted. But, then again, if it's fine, no sense in messing with it (although that's NEVER, EVER been my motto ).

? you aren't making sense. Retarding the timing makes the spark go off sooner, this is for lower compression engines. less compression, more PISTON TRAVEL in the cylinder BDC timing is so that the fuel is properly burned when it starts going off rather than only partly, also begins with the valves....... (it gets super techie after that)
Raised compression gave me more torque I can feel it (let of clutch high 2wd, no gas.) I made the timing 0*TDC to compensate for the stock setting (5*BTDC) all in all its on the stock setting. Advancing the timing makes the spark go off on the down stroke. Higher compression needs this to prevent pinging (fuel igniting because of compression and not the spark.)

I perfectly understand the mechanics of piston travel and ignition timing...I've built several high-performance race engines for myself, and others as well...
Low compression/high compression, ignition timing does the same thing -- ignites the fuel. You went from having 5 degrees BEFORE TDC to 10 degrees AFTER TDC...retarding your timing 15 degrees. Then complained about a loss in power. Yes, raising compression increases torque, that is a well known fact. Retarding your timing any amount, especially by 15 degrees, will drop power by a lot. I was just curious where you got that amount from.
EDIT: ADVANCING the timing makes the spark go off sooner...you might want to check that fact. Advance = earlier

opps. my mistake. it was early in the morning I wasn't quite awake yet...got my facts backward (ignition timing advance/retard). Good call, kudos to you.

Hey, anything happening recently? What do you need to do to the doors? I'd be interested to see what you're doing with them...I've got a bit of a mess in mine (window regulator thingy falling off, kinda bent up, some other parts missing...)
Any updates on getting the truck painted?

Hey still here everyone.
Last 3 months I have been scrapping junk I will never use/couldn't sell or give away (no one wanted it) ~10,000#s of scrap iron, @ ~$7.50/hundred lbs. made back some lost expenses from getting the stuff to begin with.\
Rebuilt another engine. 2 lift kits, a timing belt repair, and a few dozen brake jobs in the afternoons in my shop after work; turning in 50 hour consistent weeks; and a steady girlfriend im with several evenings and days a week with.....I think I can finally financially get back around to the this project again.
cleaning my tools and shop, then working on the doors. hopefully be done with them by the 4th of July so I can put it in the local parade.
Cheers

yea thanks richard, the doors i will have to rebuilt the entire bottom cowl. It has rotted out, and or metals too thin for my liking....welding with it is annoying. got 1/2 of one door finished with the patch repairs, about 5 hours with a grinder, a sharpie, and the ol Hobart.
Metal surgery...cut, cut some more, patch panels, and weld em in, tedious, but I do it well.
Moving into an apartment in about 3 weeks, so things will slow down even more after that happens, work on it when I can. Funny thing is I got every thing I need to finish it, but short on time.
Pictures Friday. I promise.
