1947 Military Jeep

I have the opportunity to buy this 1947 military jeep, that still runs on the original motor. The guy put a fiberglass body on it, I have yet to see it, but was pretty interesed since the price was $1800 bux.

Pretty sure he said it was a CJ3?? What would you do, and what questions would you ask?

CJ = Civilian Jeep, so if its a CJ it is definitely not a military jeep.

Could be a Willys MB, but the war was over by 1947, not sure if they were still making them in 1947, The first civilian Jeep was introduced in 1946, the CJ-2A, could be one of those too, the CJ-3A wasn't around in 1947 either. The Willys MB will have a 10 slot grille with smaller headlights, divided windshield. The CJ-2A will have a seven slot grille with bigger more bulgy looking headlights, divided windshield also. It may also be painted to look like a Willys MB, olive drab, this is commonly seen. Also the Willys MB wont have "Willys" stamped in the rear of the tub, The Army got after Willys and Ford for doing it, Ford got away with putting the "F" on all the heads of the bolts they used to build the Jeeps. Just a few things to look for before buying.

This page doesn't say anything about military jeeps.. but it goes into good detail about VINs on the CJ's. Maybe it will help you narrow things down? I guess it would be nice to know exactly what it is if you're considering buying it.
