XM Radio

I canceled and sold my XM radio a few months ago. I got an email today from XM saying they were already in the process of sending me a new radio with a "complementary" account! My check card has already been billed $44.95 on 25 December. I called them today. I actually had to call three times to the "cancellation" department. The first two times, I was hung up on. The third time, I got a rep that wanted to know why I had canceled it. When I told her that all I listen to are scientific and congressional podcasts on my iPhone, she immediately starts telling me that the XM will be great for those. Ya right! I couldn't help but laugh at her then. So she keeps telling me that I will have my radio in a few days until I finally got mad and told her NO! She was still very reluctant to cancel my account. She said the money will be refunded in a few days....we'll see. After one of my friends told me what he went through trying to cancel his account and all of the links I found on the net, it looks like I am going to have to go to the bank and either cancel my check card or dispute any future charges, as I am almost certain there will be future charges. The tactic they use is to start billing you all of a sudden in the future, hoping you will not see it. That is exactly what they have done to me on this one, after having canceled my account 6 months ago. I am not even beginning to be the first person with this problem. I have posted just a few links below of the seriousness of the issue with XM. I used to like XM because I could pick up local stations while I am driving in Mexico, but when they lost all the locals, I no longer wanted it. They really suck! Sad that you have to go so far to get an account canceled! I guess they don't care because they know their time is limited. Streaming radio will most definitely put them out of business.

Meh, it's the same with any kind of service. Once you get really nasty and threaten them, they'll cancel.

The problem with XM though is, they will lay dormant for months and then all of a sudden, they will start billing your card again, long after you have canceled and forgotten about the service.
