Backstory on this? Were you trolling a scammer, or was it just happenstance that they found your ad?

It is amazing how fast the scammers pick up posts. Every time I've sold something on CL I've gotten replies from scammers similar to that almost immediately after posting.

Yep, and sometimes you can act like you totally buy in to their scam just to see how far they will take it.

Then, they just disappear.

If you are going to scam me, come on!!! scam me all the way!!!!!

I think what's a close second is the people who knowingly sell counterfeit items. Understandably, you get what you pay for, but to describe something as a genuine product, and take someone for a ride selling them a lesser quality product, taking their money, it's just a shame. I have no sympathy for people like that.

I get that it's obviously a scam, I just don't see how they can make money off of pretending to buy YOUR item. How does that work, exactly?

Some people fall into the trap of "some delivery service coming to pick it up and dropping off a cashier's check." They get your item and you get a bogus check.... It's simple really.

If you want real scam fun, place a "wanted to buy" ad and see how many weird emails you get
