Couple buddy's of mine from school have a '93 yj with a 2.5 with almost 300,000 on the clock

Really? They last just as long with regular maintenance.
I had 214k on mine when I replaced it due to a broken piston skirt

the 2.5 and the 4.0 of like years are nearly identical in every way, except the lack of 2 cylinders.
