Couple buddy's of mine from school have a '93 yj with a 2.5 with almost 300,000 on the clock

There are always going to be exceptions, but the typical 2.5L is not going to have a long life like a 4.0L

Really? They last just as long with regular maintenance.
I had 214k on mine when I replaced it due to a broken piston skirt
