You aren't too familiar with how a unibody works, are you?
There is no actual steel frame, and the doors do play an integral part of the structure.
Hell, there's even a facebook page titled "I hate it when I take the doors off my XJ and the unibody folds in half"!
Seriously.

And here's a short lesson on what a unibody is:

Seems to be a few people jumping on me for something I never said. I didn't say it can't fold. I said it wouldn't fold just because you removed the roof.

I'll have to check the video out later but a quick look at that Facebook link shows a group that wheel with their doors off and it doesn't fold in half. Think their name was more tongue in cheek sarcasm to everyone that parrots "Its going to fold in half" at the mere mention of removing the doors.

Guess the only true way to know is getting a sport, chopping the top off, and seeing how much it'll take. Could be a fun project.

Maybe it won't fold just sitting there for a picture, or driving at 5 mph on a flat surface. But with the stresses put on the structure with any real kind of driving, it's a given that it IS going to fail sooner or later.

You'll notice when you check out that facebook page that all of those XJs have exo-cages or other means of reinforcing the structure...it's all about preventing the unibody from folding.

That's the problem with linking to ads, they don't stick around long enough to be viewed after 30 days or so.

I've seen a lot of benches made from car parts, some are neat, but not $500 neat.

But honestly, if that's real redwood you may be getting close to that price in wood alone.

If it's real redwood, my bet would be it's 'reclaimed' from a deck he tore down...

Here you go... A licensed dealer car flipper...huh? https://worcester.craigslist.org/wad...236778395.html

Do you know what was good about the good old days? I wasn't good, And I wasn't old!

Senators and Congressman should wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers so we could identify their corporate sponsors....
