We had emissions testing for a while, but I guess too many people failed so they stopped. Besides, it was only for the Metro Detroit counties. Did not cover the commuters from neighboring counties.

Never have had safety or equipment inspections here in the 31 years I have been driving.

But, to the original question. A YJ, TJ or JK should pass inspection since they are engineered to be street legal without doors. The doors are not really any part of the safety structure in the first place.

I'm not doubting that's what happened. I would like to see the law/state safety reg that states this. I don't understand how it can be required for the vehicle inspection when it is not required to drive on the road or are you saying the the driver must be covered while operating the vehicle?

I think it relates more to the driver being covered, which is why the bikini was acceptable this last time. However, some part of the "rules" state that the vehicle must be equipped as it is delivered from the factory. I dont know much about the specifics, and am not overly concerned as long as I keep passing.

Now that the technology has been improved, I go through the <96 line, so it's a bit of a joke. I am still passing with my 12yr old factory exhaust. I think the cracked manifold helps.

Depends on the state. In PA, no way, it's technically illegal to drive with door your doors off, let alone pass inspection.

You are going to have to quote chapter and verse on this one for me. Also sight a specific case that can be verified.

Wow.. and I thought California was tough. I see alot of Jeeps (mostly stockers) driving with their doors off.. and NO mirrors. That's just stupid. Mirrors are required, but not the doors.

There has never been one inspection in TN. Thankfully, since I'm active duty, I'll never have to register anywhere else.

In Massachusetts, a vehicle must be presented as it came from the factory (not including lift or tires, but doors, lights, and mirrors).

When I had my YJ, I was turned away at the Inspection Station because I had no doors on. I had mirrors, but they did not care. I had to go home and put the doors on (which had tinted windows).

You can try and go for a sticker, but if you need the doors, ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN.

Oh yeah- this is how the Jeep looked the last time it went for Inspection before I sold it. Didn't even question the height of it.
