Why is a NP229 transfer case full time fwd in high and part time fwd in low? Sorry if this is a stupid question but it seems like it should be the opposite. Thanks Tim

They are opposite of what you think. Full time means good to use any time, any surface. Part time means you should only use it when you are on loose dirt, ice, snow, anything slippery. If you use it on dry surfaces, it will wear out the driveline because it will bind. The front and rear axles are locked together in part time so they must turn at the same speed.

I have another question. I saw that the jeep might roll off if I park it with the hubs unlocked even if I put it in park. Is that true in 2wd also or just if it is in 4wd?

If you have both front and rear hubs unlocked (assuming you have rear hubs) then yes it could roll away

in the pre 96 np249 tcases, if you removed the front driveshaft it would roll in park. there are no hubs to lock or unlock in grand cherokees.
