Why do people want to make Jeeps fast

This is stupid. Am I missing something? I see posts all the time from people that want to put turbos on their 2.5 4 banger: I can understand a few bolt on parts, exhaust, header, an intake. Those will make the engine more efficient white giving a little more power. I see people that always have to floor it in their Jeeps cause they are cool or something. I see people that rev and think they need to race their Jeep. There is a guy around here that has a nice cj7 that thinks it’s a ****ing hotrod. You can always tell when he is around speeding through parking lots, burning out, why? I don’t care if he does drive a nice cj7, that guy is a *******, anyone of you who drove that way I would call stupid too. Why this new thing? is this a break off of Honda rice syndrome?

Unfortunately I think so! It's like anything with wheels ihas this potential for some ******* to hotrod in. A few weeks back I posted a story about how I got reved on by a RAV4.

But, although adding a turbo may not make a lot of sense to you, it does help improve the power output. It might even ad a few more ftlbs of torque. Who knows. Afterall torque is a 4x4's friend!

Well I can't say that I go around parking lots squeeling tires. But I really do like surprising a ricer at a stop light. I wouldn't mind having a supercharger and a stroker kit done to my 4.0. Not for anyone else's enjoyment but my own. I kinda like hitting the gas and it goes. Its not bad now, but would be fun to say I built up a 4.0 and it can really move.

To each there own I guess. I'll always love HP.

Lately??? no lol.Been to busy to see anything but pavement (talk about withdrawls right now) Its my daily driver. So why not have fun on AND offroad? Now if it was a trailer queen. No, wouldn't worry about it. I would have something else to play with. But I own a Jeep, so I'm broke and just have to make do with what I got.

Come on, pulling up to a light, have some riced out import with a massive fart pipe reving its engine next to you, light turns green and you leave them in the dust with this wtf just happened looked on there face doesn't sound like fun to you? Mostly thats all that is around my area, mustangs and imports.

Yeah, I usually try to ignore the fags in riced out imports, but can't help but to kill them (in an old Ranger nontheless). Its sort of a bitter-sweet victory though, I feel almost as stupid as they look, I just raced a honda with fart pipe with a gay 16-20 yr old driver

I believe this thread is coming in response to my curiousity behind mating a turbo from a 2.5 lebaron on a 2.5 jeep motor.

When someone says "don't" I ask "why not?"

My rig also happens to be a daily driver, and i frequently do 50 mile highway trips to visit my girlfriend. When a mod can give me a little extra upper end power, ill look into it. I dont care what my quarter mile time is. What I do care about is my TPS voltage on the highway. Think about the potential fuel saved if i could do 65mph at only 50% throttle, instead of WOT.

But that aside, as you mentioned, i could do a V8 swap as many others on the forum have done. But what is the point of this? Power? the 2.5 puts out all the power you need for slow speeds, a V8 is for get up and go.

But im getting off topic here. As i stated in the 2.5 turbo thread, I only asked as a hypothetical to kick some ideas around, mostly just for fun.

summary:

"why do people want to make jeeps go fast?"
"why not?"

Think about the potential fuel saved if i could do 65mph at only 50% throttle, instead of WOT.

Using this logic what you have to understand is if you were doing 50% throttle with a turbo you woudl be producing boost or positive manifold pressure, more air, you need more gas, probably more than a stock engine at WOT. But WOT on the freeway probably isnt likely for most people driving.

I never meant to single anyone out. Your post did have something to do with this post but it was never my goal to single you or anyone else on this site out. The Rice Jeep thing has just gone nuts where I live anyway, and its frustraighting

Yeah I live in Nor cal, and I'll go off-road anytime

Lots of closet hippocrites in this thread I have an LT1 in my wrangler, put it in after my weekass 6 banger gave up the ghost. Am I regretful? Hell No! I hated that thing struggling to do 55 all the time on the highway.

If I had a 4 banger in good condition, and all it took was the $3500 for a new supercharger or turbo to make it actually move well, I'd go for it. Since my 6 cylinder blew up I had a choice to make, and it cost me $10,000 but I dont worry about doing 55 down the highway anymore.
