Theyre not "lost on the network" the OP simply has a broken screen, the devices radio is still active if its turned on.

There are other options.

Screen replacement is cheap. Done it a few times in the $30-$60 range depending on device. Then you don't have to recover anything.

Other option is to root (get administrative access) and use an app such as Titanium Backup. Make the backup reside on ext sd and you can always restore what you want on a new device by taking the card with you.

My old Galaxy Note I could back everything up using Samsung Kies a software you download from their website. I think it works on your phone as well.

Looking into fixing the screen for cheap. Guess my quote of $150 for the kit was a little off?

Could be. The last I did was my step daughters iPhone. $65 total, there was a store near Regency Mall in Jax, FL that did it. Shop around your area, you may find it cheaper than $150.

Log into verizonwireless and go to the messaging area. It will allow you to read all of your text messages sent and received. You can also send from that screen. all of the massages are ones that you have sent and received, not deleted..

verizonwireless (login)
my verizon
my messaging
send a message

this will show you all messages, no phone needed
