Broke the LCD on my Verizon S3 last weeekend. I have a new one coming to me off of ebay. I was told that swapping sim cards would give me access to my personal data, specifically unread texts. I tried it on my mom's S3... and only a few came in from the past day or two. Any chance of getting them from the last 7 days?

Call Verizon and ask them.

I thought sim cards only stored numbers.

For realz. I think they store texts, but I've never had one hold my messages. I don't know how that works.

I switched to the s4 and the only thing I got was my phone members. No texts etc came back.

I've read a few statements online mentioning different carriers storing a certain amount for a specific time... Unless I can transfer them to another phone or get them on my laptop without a working LCD, I'll wait to call Verizon tomorrow.

Pretty sure you have to back them up manually to your SIM.

Only possible with a functional screen?

Was it cheaper to purchase a new phone rather than a new screen?

Yeah I mean you have to see what you're doing haha but you won't be able to back up your texts from your moms phone.

Depends. Cost me $280 for a super clean S3 off ebay. The IT guy that works on my campus wanted $150 in parts and $40/hour for labor. Peace of mind won.

I worked at VZW for several years... the sim card will only hold a few numbers that you have to send to it. It will not store the text, when you put your sim in your moms phone you told the antenna of that phone to connect to the network as your number... I doubt they will be able to help you, as they do not store the messages. You have to have a supeona (sp) and have an law enforcement officer to call a special department to try to retrieve your text.
Good Luck

The above poster is incorrect, I know for a fact on iOS you can retrieve old text messages and multi media messages, as well as pictures and app data with simple recovery software after putting the phone into DFU mode. I have done this for my own phone and for a co worker once before.

You just need to research what recovery tools are available for the Android OS.

I used to care about my phone, this S3 is only my second smart phone and I've just lost all interest in it. No case, no screen protector, evident water damage, cracked screen, but it still works like new lol

rebelbowtie - really incorrect? I know I am not an apple fan boy, but there is no way that any operating system has the capabilities to retrieved undelivered messages that are lost on the network!
