Where to buy used telephone poles?

Anyone know how I can get my hands on some used telephone poles? I need 16 posts for my garage and they would be perfect.

But I don't know where or how to go about finding them.

I can't bear the thought of losing, I dread the attention winning brings

Yeah call your electric provider and ask about it. I know around here they auction them off once a year but you may be able to purchase them straight up.

PUD is probably "Public Utilities District"? Or maybe he lives in Pierce County and it's Pierce Utilities District? That's usually the water company though..

When I lived in Minnesota the folks over at Minnkota Power were giving away broken poles. I dragged home about 30 of them to burn in my outdoor wood burning furnace. They were wanting to charge quite a chunk for intact ones, but the broken ones they were almost willing to deliver them for you if you took the whole thing.

Most utility companies have a hard time getting rid of the old poles because of the disposal of the creosoted part. But if you're going to use them for hanging a garage roof onto, they're perfect...

Yep call some one at the power company. Try someone in the office of your local divisions. They should be able to help ya. My dad works for the power company but you're a little far from me or i'd get them for ya no problem.

Garage
Back when my dad worked for the power company in New Hampshire they would yank the old poles out or cut them off and leave them by the side of the road, free for the taking.

It's going to be a POLE barn style garage, I would guess. I'm doing the same thing right now, but I used dimensional lumber.

call electricians that do pole services... they should have old ones, or know where to get some.
