Wheelin' trip - May Long Weekend

Last two weeks have been busy getting ready for the first official weekend of summer camping in Canada.

Thursday night after work I started packing up my Jeep and at 1:00 Friday morning I was ready to go to Waiparous (pronounced Why-Prous) for the weekend.

Friday morning I drove my Jeep, towing my tent trailer to work and working as fast and as hard as I could to get everything done so I could kick out early!

This first picture is just after I got setup at the group-camp setup with the Rocky Mountain Big Wheels

Under the snow was lots of mud to be playing with. I was chuckin' the mud 30' in front of my Jeep as I was crawling along in it.

This is at the top of a hill-climb. We were doing a Poker run. We drew cards at the beginning of the run at the staging area, once we reached the middle of the trip, cash prizes were given out to the three best winning hands.

There was also a hard-luck award. It went to John who was driving a Chevy truck on 38" swampers. He just bought the truck about a month before this trip and didn't have a single panel on the truck that wasn't dinted by the middle of its first run.

Here we were roasting hotdogs on the side of the trail.

Believe it or not, the truck parked in front of my Jeep is running 1/2 ton axles. A Chevy 10-bolt rear and a Dana 44 front. Those are 44" swampers attached to the ends!!!

He hasn't complained about breakage yet - but is planning on swapping out those axles for a pair of 1-tons.

And this morning - after a crazy weekend of snow, snow and more snow - I wake up to sunshine!

Had to pack up my stuff and get ready for the trip back to Calgary.

My friends got a good bunch of action shots of my Jeep - waiting for them to send me the copies.

The destruction count for the group I was with:

3 alternators
2 starters
1 transmission bell-housing
3 transmissions
1 transfer case
1 wheel broke the studs off
1 broken leg
1 truck without a single straight panel

..... and I got home without a single stuck or broken part!!!

One of our buddies parked his rig and was playin' on his new quad. It rolled over and took out his leg. We sent a couple rigs back to camp with his quad in the bed of a pickup, him with his leg in a splint .. and on to the hospital. He didn't want an ambulance ride .. so, he rode in the smoothest vehicle in the group.

I didn't see him before I left - unsure if he came back to camp or went home and had his missus pack the stuff up and bring it back.
