Wheelers For The Wounded

Anyone checked that out yet? I think its a great endeavor!

http://wheelersforthewounded.org/

Quote:
Wheelers for the Wounded is an organization with the goal of providing a few days of off-roading and camping to our Country’s wounded military members all over the United States. It will provide them with much deserved fun and excitement as they traverse some of the most extreme terrain our great country has to offer in a variety of the best off-road capable vehicles ever built.

Upon the completion of the founder’s tour in Iraq he will return to the United States and begin a 3 month off-roading and camping adventure across our great land which will begin on March 1, 2009. The wounded servicemen and women will get to experience first hand the beautiful country they've unselfishly given up so much of their lives for.

Along the way, members of off-road clubs all across the States will host special events for the brave men and women and will accompany them on the trails in their area. Riding with the groups will surely bring smiles to the faces of our esteemed passengers. At nightfall, we'll enjoy our peaceful surroundings and camp out in some of the most beautiful national parks in the Country.

To increase the sensation that an open-air vehicle provides, a brand new 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon will be used. The top and doors will be removed which will benefit those who have lost partial eyesight and/or hearing. The Rubicon is currently in the process of being customized and will truly be a one of a kind vehicle.

This in not a political website in support of one party or another, or in support of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan or against them. The only support here is for the American men and women in uniform.

3fifty, that sounds like a great thing to do for our servicemen and women. Thanks again for serving and your pics.

Edit: 3fifty, how come you are not listed as a supporting member anymore? I know it has not been a year since I bought you your membership.

I switched emails about 4 weeks ago since I will be moving soon and would lose my ISP email. When I did that I lost the supporting member status. I PM'd Keith, Hunter, and another mod about it but I have yet to get it back.

I am sure Keith will get it fixed as soon as he is done with all the updates to the site he has been dealing with lately.

Wheelers for the Wounded

I can't wait to take part in this. Jason and I are both in Iraq right now and we return about the same time. My rig is still being built and restored but it should be ready for my return this fall and for the event hosted by Tellico since I'll be moving to Fort Benning.

Is this the only thread on JF about Wheelers For The Wounded? His thread is blowing up on militaryjeepers.com forum.

I was contacted by Jason back in February on Myspace http://www.myspace.com/wheelersforthewounded He had seen my profile and emailed me a flyer to pass around here where I work, I work at the Warrior Transition Unit here on Ft. Riley. I do plan on going to the one at Kansas Rocks, I even went to the forum website and bought my sticker.

Hi all...I'm the founder of Wheelers for the Wounded. Thank you for making this thread a sticky. Due to wanting 100% of the funds raised to go towards making the events as special as possible for those we are honoring, everyone involved in the WFTW program does so voluntarily (myself included) and I do not pay for advertising. Therefore I rely on forums and word of mouth to get the word out about the program.

I have spent the past few days revamping the WFTW website and I think you all will like the changes. If everyone here could send an email to their friends and family letting them know about the program, and they forwarded the email to everyone they know, think of how quickly the word could spread!

After 1 year in Iraq it is time for me to take a vacation for a few weeks, so I'll be returning to Florida next week (and can hardly wait!). While there I will be at a WFTW charity event in Ocala, FL and doing all I can to help get the word out before returning to Iraq for another 7 to 9 months.

Check the website to see when a charity event will be held in your area (there are a few planned over the next month or two) and be on the lookout for the main events which will be kicking off next year!

I'd also like to take a minute to thank those of you who've donated. I am going to be out of work for over half a year during the program and therefore cannot pay for everything myself (though I am trying). Your donations are VERY important and I really appreciate it.

Jason,

I am pumped about this and have hit up all my wheelin' buds across the US at various bases. Say "hi" to Olustee Battlefield for me when you drive by it in Ocala! I got lost as hell in my Boy Scout Days in the national forest there after a reinactment and then I decided to go exploring. After that I got real good with a compass, map, and natural terrain recognition...orienteering is a breeze now but I'll never forget that place!

I bought/donated for my stickers today. For further donations from me after this one, don't worry about sending me anymore stickers so the stocks don't deplete and my rig will already be decked out with them. I want my friends to earn theirs too ;-)

Thanks for the donation Eddie! I mailed the stickers out today...hopefully they won't take long to get there since they're going from APO to APO.

I'm real excited about the Ocala event this month. We're expecting a good turn-out and it's going to be GREAT to finally get back to the States and check out my Jeep with the Pro Rock 60 axles and other upgrades. Since the 40" tires won't be ready until the end of June, I'm throwing on 37" rubber to hold me over until then. Either way, I'll be ridin' high.
