He's as pale as anyone I've ever seen, and he looks right at me and says, "I killed my brother." He then walks past me down the hallway.

It was then that I realized that there was another guy standing in the elevator just staring up at the hatch in the ceiling. Then he looks at me and says, "He's up there," pointing at the opening. Then he wanders off down the hallway! Well, I needed to see what the hell they were talking about, plus I thought I might be able to help if someone was hurt. So my friend boosts me up through the hatch onto the top of the elevator. There was just enough light to see that there was a guy laying on his back, with his legs near the hatch, and his body stretching across to the corner of the elevator. I shook him and spoke to him, but got no response. I figured I should check for vital signs (I was employed as a lifeguard at the time, and some of my training was starting to kick in), so I reached up to check his pulse. It was then that I noticed that the top half of his body was sort of squished between the elevator car and the elevator shaft. Then I glanced over to my left, and there, separated from his body by at least three feet, was his head, also wedged between the car and the shaft. His eyes and his tongue were bulging out of his head like some special effects movie trick.

Needless to say, vital signs weren't a priority any more, and I hopped down out of that elevator mighty quick. I kept other folks from going up there until the authorities arrived about 5 minutes later. It turns out that the three guys had been "elevator surfing" where one guy runs the elevator up and down, and the other two ride on top, occasionally hanging from the emergency ladders and jumping onto the roof of the rising car. This guy had slipped and gotten crushed, and beheaded, by the elevator. The guy who was running the elevator was his roommate, and the other guy on top of the car was his brother. Yes, they had been drinking. When the University checked the other elevators in the dorms around campus, they found evidence (including a chair) in almost all of the elevator shafts that "elevator surfing" was apparenltly a popular activity.

It's strange, but even though that happened almost 20 years ago (yes, I'm that old), my hands are shaking now as I type this.
Ok, you have my vote for this thread! Man, that's wild. Never heard of elevator surfing, how dumb can you get.

When I was a kid of about 11 years old, a friend and I were riding our BMX bikes to his house. Living in rural North Carolina the distance between our houses was about 4 miles or so. I had stopped to take a wizz in the woods when I looked at a tree a few feet ahead of me at what appeared to be some sort of pinkish meat hanging from the tree limbs.

I walked closer, a few feet away there was a pile of entrails. Then I saw the person to whom they belonged. A middle aged man had taken a sawed off shotgun and blasted himself in the mid-section. He was ashen grey from having bled out and there was evidence of animals starting to dine on his exposed flesh. I remember seeing a bird delicately pluck a rather large piece of flesh from a wild blueberry bush nearby then fly away.

I was frozen with fear and tried to call out to my friend, but couldn't. I ran back to the bike trail and told him what was back there. We rode back to my house and called the police. Apparently this guy had written a suicide note and followed thru with his plans in a lonely strip of North Carolina woods.

I grew up living in the country in Iowa. We lived a long ways away from town and any main highways or roads. The road we lived on had very steep apexes and if you got to going about 50 you could catch air off of them. Well they were known as the "Thrill hills". You would usually hear people coming down the road now and then going atleast 50 because when your a teenager if 50's good 100 twice as good. So you hear the cars coming and leave the road and then land. Well one night we were unloading the final grain cart into the bin when we heard this car that was really moving. My dad thought here is another idiot. We think nothing of it and keep working then we hear them come over the hill and they were really airborn. Noticing that they are being chased by another car. Well this is never good. They landed the first hill and we hear them just floor it. They are out of sight now because they are behind the hill. All of a sudden you see the first car get air born and the second close behind. Well they didn't land straight. They crashed. All we heard was metal gravel and screams. Yes we heard them scream. Dad grabes the phone and starts calling the Sheriff and FD. We hopped on the four wheelers and took off down there. We get to the scene and one car is upside down and the other is on fire and the two kids were laying in the road. They were alive and breathing with sever trauma to their heads with broken legs and arms. We ran over as we were hollering at the guys in the road and we looked under at the same time and there were two girls in there.
They were still in there seatbelts and they had expired. I don't know how many of you have every seen a fresh accident where there was a fatality but it is pretty mortifying really. The sheriff and ambulance showed up and they started there investigation. They estimated the speed at over 85MPH from the distance traveled. The two girls were from Omaha and the two guys were from somewhere by omaha. How they ended up an hour southeast I have no idea. We were 1/4 of a mile away from the accident at the grain bin and we could hear them screaming. That I will never forget.

Man, I've never been a witness to survivors/victims of an accident and hope I never am. Never found a dead body, hope that don't happen either! lol

The elevator wasn't the only place I've found a dead body, but it was definitely the scariest/freakiest! I also found an old plane crash site with dead folks in it, but they'd been there so long it was nothing but scattered bones. I included that one a while back in the Jeep Stories "Ever Find Anything Unusual While Wheeling?" thread. That thread's a good read for those of you who haven't checked it out!

The place came fully furnished, TV, beds, dishes every thing. Every thing seemed fine until I started noticing how some times the TV would be warm, or the coffee pot would still be hot after being off all day. I dismissed it as BS until one day the down stairs resident asked me if we had guests. She said she had herd people moving around and the sound of the TV being on. At first I thought maybe some one was screwing around with us, so I changed the locks, and put new locks on the windows, but still odd things still kept happening in the place. I really started to believe in ghosts, but still refused to really believe.

After a day of working in the shop, my girl and I drove back to the house and I pull into the drive way, hop outa m Jeep and look up at the living room window. And I about froze in my tracks. There staring down at us was this guy looking out the window. We had eye contact for a good min at least. I had my keys in hand and went running up the stairs, unlocked the door, burst though it and NOTHING. Not a damn thing was here. TV was warm, coffee pot was hot. Nothing else was out of place, windows were all still locked and I know I no one / thing came out the front door.

I know what I saw, and I can’t speak for my wife, but to this day I do not believe in ghosts.

Another possibility is a "secret passage". I know it sounds like hokey kid's stuff, but a lot of those really old houses had them to escape danger like indians, soldiers, or hide slaves. It might have been someone who worked there or once lived there and used it to sneak in and eat your potato chips and watch tv while you were at work.

freakiest for me: on my 18th bday, I snapped my arm snowboarding (fell 20 ft after losing my balance in the air). That wasn't so bad. After snowboarding the rest of the mountain to get back to my dad at the lodge, we went to the closest hospital.

While at the hospital, my dad went to the restroom. On his way back, in the hall, he overheard the doctors saying "I've never seen a break like this." Another said "I don't know how to fix this." Scared me s**tless when my dad told me as I was on the hospital bed.

to finish the story, I got surgery, and now have a 6 inch steel plate in my arm with 8 titanium screws. My arm is fixed now, three years later

About 13 years ago, I was working my first shift as a reserve officer at a small town police department. We get a welfare check/ shooting call, and head that way. It seems an older guy with prostrate cancer figured he'd been through enough. His long time girlfriend had died a year and a day prior. So he grabbed his 30-06, a lawn chair, and went to sit in the front yard under a tree. Don't know how long he thought about it, but he ate the barrel and let loose. Naturally the shot killed him, but it blew his head up like a balloon in the process. There were brains spread all over the yard and his now inside out baseball cap up in the tree. It shot the hearing aids out of his ears too. But then since his head was turned inside out and he's dead leaning over the rifle, he falls forward onto it. So when we get there he's lying on the ground with the rifle sticking through his head. Needless to say that is a vivid picture permanently etched in my memory.

Now it all makes sense. You saw that and all you could say was Awshux. Creepy story and awful to think about..... but what idiots.

That is awesome, it could only have been better if the hat fell from the tree and landed on the rifle barrell and just hung there.

I waited around in shock for a minute and in about 20 seconds the cops that were chasing him showed up and pulled him out of the car, they took my statement and checked my vehicle for any damage, which tere wasn't any, but the cop told me he had just shot and killed a guy in a drug deal gone bad...
