Got hit by a car while Surveying on the side of the road, I was standing there with my crew and out of nowhere we got hit.
Impact threw us all good too. Knocked me clear out of my workboots, althought in her defense I never really tied them tight anyhow. ****ing 16 year old girl putting on makeup while she drove. No sh*t. Told the fuzz she was blinded by the sun.

I was driving home one Saturday afternoon after visiting my Grandmother when I came around a curve just in time to see this speeding car lose control and smack head on into this huge oak tree. The car burst into flames on impact. I stopped and another guy stopped that was coming the other way and we ran down the hill and started trying to pull the driver out. The flames spread so fast that by the time we got the door pried open the driver was on fire. He was pinned between the roof of the car and the steering column. We finally managed to get the guy out, but by the time we did his legs were burned so badly the the meat was falling off them. Something strange about seeing burnt flesh just fall off the bone. I mean I sat there looking at this guys femur and knee caps. I didn't even realize that I had burned my shirt and all the hair off my arms. They flew him out in a medivac helicopter and he survived, obviously without his legs. We were standing there talking to the police and we noticed something move way out in the field, so we walked out to see what it was and it was his passenger. He had been thrown through the windshield with such force that he seemed like he landed a half a mile away. The process of flying through the windshield had pulled the guy's clothes off....He was naked! They both survived, but we later found out they were drunk. Met the guy who lost his legs about a year later and he was the biggest a$$hole I ever had the misfortune of meeting. Told him I was one of the guys who pulled him out of the car and he never even said thank you.

I thought of another. A few years ago, me and a buddy was riding some trails near my house on our four wheelers. Mine had been occasionally slipping out of gear, and when it did that, it was very hard to get it back into gear. It would do this all of a sudden while riding sometimes.
Well, it just so happened that on our way home, we were going down the biggest hill that we climbed that morning. As I started down it and got about 1/8 of the way down, I felt it kick out of gear! I was doing all I could to kick it back into gear, and like a dumb butt I had not fixed my brakes and they didn't work good. So after a few seconds fly by, I'm now travelling down this steep hill at a HIGH rate of speed. There was a curve coming up, and I was contemplating in my mind if I could take the curve without flipping the quad. I guess I thought I could ride the hill out and let it coast to a stop. Anyhow, my plan didn't work too well. As I tried to make the curve, I was thrown off and sent sailing about 40 feet throughout the woods and landed awkwardly on my leg/knee, which snapped. The mere fact that I didn't hit any trees is a miracle, I wasn't wearing a helmet, and I had a big scrape across my forehead where I apparently skimmed a tree during my "flight". I had to be taken out of the woods while laying flat on my back on a trailer, being pulled by a fourwheeler, going through all the ruts we went through earlier. That HURT! My leg was indeed snapped right below the kneecap, and I went through 2 surgeries and lots of PT and I'm much better now.

I spent 3 days with my eyes swelled shut from electrical flash burns. The good thing is that the burns to my eyes healed, my vision improved to 20/20 from 20/50.
My oldest son had meningitis when he was 18 months old. We spent 9 days in the hospital giving him antibiotics. He's 13 now and fine. |

i was with my buddy on the way home from school and we were driving along the access road when all of a sudden some old bmw rolled off the high way and into the grass. it was the weirdest thing to see. so anyways i yell at my friend to stop and we pulled over to help out. when we got to the car there was a lady ( i guess she got thrown out of the car) yelling for help saying that her boyfriend was still in the car. by this time a bunch of people had stopped and had already called 911. when the police and what not showed up they pulled the guy out and star flighted him to the hospital. i have no idea what happened to the couple after that but it was very freaky to watch a car just randomly roll off the highway.

I was in the college dorm studying with a friend when we heard a scream from out in the hallway. We ran out and heard it again, and it was coming from the end of the building where the elevators were. We ran down there and just as we round the corner to the elevators, we see a guy drop down out of the hatch in the ceiling of the elevator! He's as pale as anyone I've ever seen, and he looks right at me and says, "I killed my brother." He then walks past me down the hallway.
It was then that I realized that there was another guy standing in the elevator just staring up at the hatch in the ceiling. Then he looks at me and says, "He's up there," pointing at the opening. Then he wanders off down the hallway! Well, I needed to see what the hell they were talking about, plus I thought I might be able to help if someone was hurt. So my friend boosts me up through the hatch onto the top of the elevator. There was just enough light to see that there was a guy laying on his back, with his legs near the hatch, and his body stretching across to the corner of the elevator. I shook him and spoke to him, but got no response. I figured I should check for vital signs (I was employed as a lifeguard at the time, and some of my training was starting to kick in), so I reached up to check his pulse. It was then that I noticed that the top half of his body was sort of squished between the elevator car and the elevator shaft. Then I glanced over to my left, and there, separated from his body by at least three feet, was his head, also wedged between the car and the shaft. His eyes and his tongue were bulging out of his head like some special effects movie trick. Needless to say, vital signs weren't a priority any more, and I hopped down out of that elevator mighty quick. I kept other folks from going up there until the authorities arrived about 5 minutes later. It turns out that the three guys had been "elevator surfing" where one guy runs the elevator up and down, and the other two ride on top, occasionally hanging from the emergency ladders and jumping onto the roof of the rising car. This guy had slipped and gotten crushed, and beheaded, by the elevator. The guy who was running the elevator was his roommate, and the other guy on top of the car was his brother. Yes, they had been drinking. When the University checked the other elevators in the dorms around campus, they found evidence (including a chair) in almost all of the elevator shafts that "elevator surfing" was apparently a popular activity. It's strange, but even though that happened almost 20 years ago (yes, I'm that old), my hands are shaking now as I type this.
