what's all the rage with iPods??

Heck what do they even do? Not that I'm technically challenged or anything, but I don't have even a cell phone. What is all the rage about iPods?

They are cool fairly small MP3 players that Apple makes ... you can use them as external hard drives also since they hold so much information.

They came out with the iPod Photo recently! It has an LCD screen on it so you can stick pictures on it and show it to people.

They're an mp3 player with a good marketing plan. I don't own one but they're pretty cool. Aside from just being trendy, they're also pretty useful. They have a 40gig drive and are pretty darn tiny. This makes them super portable. Aside from being an mp3 player they can be used as a portable hard drive.

well, I agree, they seem to be just a trendy thing. I was just curious since there are all sorts of write ups on iPod mounts in people's rigs. I was just wondering if I was missing out on anything. But heck, I don't even listen to my radio in my jeep so I guess I'll pass on this piece of irresistable technology

iPods are just the H2 of media players. The 40GB (10,000 mp3's worth of storage) costs $399 retail -- I can get six 200GB Maxtor desktop drives for that price (300,000 mp3's worth). I'll just stick with my MiniDisc player.

They're just a pop-culture trend. Right up there with the Fatkins diet, reality TV and turning meaningless conversations into debates of pre-election political warfare.

Heh it just seemed strikingly similar. I have nothing against Macs at all, they are very impressive multimedia rigs. I just can't believe that Apple takes this cheap plastic shell with a few cheesy buttons and a knob, throws some 3rd-party interface, LCD and a Toshiba hard drive in it and sells them off for $300-$400... and people are buying them in droves.

More power to them I guess. I just wouldn't have peace of mind knowing that a sudden little jolt could crash the drive head against the platter and totally ruin the damned thing, rendering it useless. Of course judging by the way some people look at me in my Jeep, they're probably thinking the same thing. "Why does he do that to his vehicle?!"

my guess is, like everything, once most people have one and the demand goes down so will the price. they are really handy though. my friend has one and he has a whole crap load of songs on it. saves the need to keep cds in the car and flip through a holder when you only want to listen to one song. i've also used it to transfer alot of big video files from my old comp to my new one (i'm into video editing, the folders get pretty big). so it helped cuz we didnt have a direct connection from comp to comp. i dont know that much about their hard drive, but i would guess the only downfalls are their price and the fact that a virus can kill em just like a normal computer
