what's with all the back-in parking?

Maybe its a Tucson thing, but it appears there is a rash of people that insist on back in parking even in most impossible and annoying situations.

I have been driving nearly 30 years and this seems to be a recent thing.

Since when did everyone become a getaway driver?

I can sit there and watch these goobers spend more time and sometimes nearly causing an accident.

I know some places require back in.

Maybe starting a thread would be fun. I know miata.net has " I park like an A-hole" thread

I pretty much have to back into a spot with my work truck and tow rig. Idea being I can drive past the spot I want to make sure it's clear and back into it easy. The other thing this does is help get back out if people park around you while you are parked. We are actually told in DOT classes to back in. From parking like this all the time I usually back my jeep in too. I'd rather pull out into traffic than back out into it.

It's easier when you leave because you do the work when u are backing in.

Don't be confused.. the complications and dangers are still there.

Is rather back in than back out. You hardly have to emergency park, unless you gotta **** or somethin

I back in so I can watch for people a lot easier. It's also a lot easier to get out in traffic.

I travel nation wide for the nuclear industry, and every site I have been on pretty much requires you to back into it for the past 10 years of more, saying first move forward is somehow proven to be much safer.

And on another note, I worked Palo Verde, yes in Arizona, back in 1996, and we had a contractor back out of his parking space at the end of shift, and was T boned by a big dually of some sort. Totaling the rental, but no personal injury.

Perhaps other larger trucks or cars blocked his view? None the less the dually operator was running late for work and speeding in the lot..

Think about chaotic soccer moms with cell phones at wall mart, and I think you can grasp the idea..

That was included in some driver training I had to take to drive a company truck back when I was laying asphalt.. Smith System I think it was called. Backing into parking spots just stuck with me I guess. I'll also park at a gas pump sometimes without getting gas... it's just easier, and no kids will get lost behind my tailgate. It's also way easier to get into a spot and not double park with a full size truck.

With the government mandated backup cameras in cars the backing in will probably get more common.

You're the one blocking the pumps while I need gas.

CJ's, TJ's and JK's look better backed in, then I can see the front of them.

Backing in is a PITA because it makes it a *****
to load stuff in to the back of the Jeep. The only
time I back in is at the house. Makes it easier to
unload the Jeep. Plus all the *******s walking
down the street don't get to see inside my
Jeep and feel the need to smash and grab.

When we do right, no one remembers. When we do wrong, no one forgets.

People are stupid. Trends change. That's a constant.

Traded the '10 WK w/Hemi and QD2 in on 5/15/15 for a '15 mazda CX-5 2.5L AWD Touring. Happier!

I do back in to spots once in a while. It's just easier, and safer, to pull out rather than back out. I don't try to back into a spot that I feel I can't get in in one try. But then, I will park at the far end of the parking lot because I don't trust 90% of the other drivers in the lot...

What makes hearing children’s laughter scary?
They’re giggling because they set something on fire.

My parents always taught me to back in. I back into every parking spot and all my friends make fun of me but you know what, backing in is one of the reasons im a better driver than all of them. Plus we drive jeeps sooooo, we gotta stand out even more. Here's a pic of me in my high school parking lot, lol.
