Not trying to tell you what to do but every kid that moves out goes out and gets a pet. Most times that pet ends up at the parents house or the shelter.
#1 DO NOT GET A PET UNLESS THE PLACE YOU ARE RENTING ALLOWS IT!
#2 DO NOT GET A PET IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE AT HOME!
#3 DO NOT GET A PET IF YOU CAN NOT AFFORD TO FEED YOURSELF!
Nevermind all of this if you are planning on buying your own place and then getting the dog.

I don't have any pictures, mostly because I'm illiterate when it comes to posting them (even with help), so I will list the dogs I have.

White heeler
German shephard/Collie
Chihuahua
Chihuahua
Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund)
Dachshund
Blue heeler mix

and the neighbor's Blue heeler that stays at out house 90% of the time

Next week we will also have my sister's West-highland white/rat terrier
Glad we don't have her Boxer and Greyhound too

I have 2 English Pointers I got from a Pointer rescue center in Michigan. They seem to end up in the pound when they no longer hunt well.

I also have a Boxer I got from a Boxer rescue in L.A.. Can't believe some of the quality dogs they have there. My wife would take 'em all if I let her!

We have a year-old Shiba Inu named Kiba.
This was on our way home from the kennel. Shortly after this pic, he stood up, and puked all down the passenger door and into the little map pocket. He also got the wife's leg.

First night home:

This was taken a couple weeks ago. The XHD bumper makes a great tie-out point when I'm working in my shed.

Here are my boys.

Rollie - Beagle, unfortunately grossly overweight from years of epilepsy (sp?) however now on weight loss medicine and has lost 3 lbs already.

Aden - Beagle Pointer Mix

Gilbert - Walker Coon Hound we rescued about a year and a half ago. As you can see, he wasn't getting any food at animal control so we took him in and fattened him up.

And our latest addition, Fred. Another beagle that we just recently rescued. Owner wanted to put him to sleep because he tore a ligament in his back leg. Other than the leg which makes him barely limp, he's a perfect angel. SOme people...

And here are the youngest two hanging out in their favorite spot
