I previously posted a photo of Monty, our english cream long-hair dachshund, which here is another photo of him. He's a small standard size at 15 lbs. and is about 13 months old.

Last week we just lost our other dachshund, Dot, to kidney disease (see her link below in my signature). Well Monty just needed another dog in the house, so last Saturday we brought home another new dachshund puppy named Clover. She's also a long-hair, but is instead a small size miniature dachshund of just 3 lbs., and will be 7 to 8 lbs. as an adult. She is also from a championship line and was going to be a show dog (which included DNA testing). However she's just a little too small for breeding to continue her line, so she was put up for sale. She's very lively and Monty is feeling much better to have her company.

Preface: my immediate family has a fixation on "J"-names, so don't laugh.

I've always had a dog so far throughout my 24 year life. I had a Cairn Terrier, Jessica or Jessie, when I was younger ... she lived until I think 13 or so. I believe she passed by natural causes--I was at college so I wasn't around.

When my grandfather passed away when I was about 11, we inhertied his two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Awesome, loving dogs ... but very possessive an protective of their owners and things. Highly instinctive hunters and retrievers (obviously). Great hunting dogs. We had them put down when they we 12 due to cancer.

We were dogless for all of a month or so before we got another Chessy ... Jaxson--male of all males. Got bit by a rattlesnake (in a small park in north-central Marland of all places) ... was within inches of death and pulled through, but the anti-venom and steroids used to treat it afterwards/during screwed him up. Made him a very agresively protective dog. Unless he was encroached, he was a reall nice and affectionate companion ... but if someone would approach unannounced ... that's when it could be dangerous. In that respect, Chessies shouldn't be pets if there are small children in the house. We had to put him down quite recently (a couple months ago) because of cancer and hip problems ... he was only 7.

Before Jaxson passed we got a female, Josie, who is as so sweet--mostly b/c Jaxson would beat her up all the time. But she loved Jaxson and was so depressed when we had to put him down ... I think she was only 1.5 years old at that point.

So we just got another puppy--the coolest little Chocolate Lab I know--Juno. Yes, I know it's the name of a goddess ... my mother would have none of it ... the name was set. He the most independent dog I know ... doesn't need to be cuddled or attention or anything.

Ever since we got Juno, Josie has now adopted him as his mother and she's very protective of him with other dogs ... but not people. She knows that generally people are good ... but dogs need to gain her trust before she lets him play with him. Juno's got no beef with nobody ... he's only 40 lbs but he'll try to dominate any dog in a playful matter.

Here's Jaxson on the left and Josie on the right in front of my TJ ... they helped me put my HID's in. The retrieving bumper was Jaxson's heroin ... if he wasn't hunting or retrieving, he wasn't happy. Josie is much less concerned with retrieving although she and Juno are both fish in the water and love retrieving ... it's just not their perogative as was with Jaxson.

Hey I am seriously thinking about getting a Blue Heeler but My vet said I shouldn't get one because I don't have a flock for one to tend to nor do I live on a farm where it could run.... I have a really large fenced in back yard. How is yours on temperament?? I mean, really, how high energy and maintenance is your dog? Ive always liked this breed and hear they are some of the smartest dogs around.

Woot, I have a dog now so I can post in here

13 week old 7/8th Australian Shepherd, 1/8 Border Collie. Absolutely loves snow and blends in perfectly to it...

His name is Blanca - named after the 14er near where we got him from a ranch.

His skills include herding sandals:

Laying around under chairs when it is hot:

And blending in with snow:

Here's mine. She's stuck at home with my fiance to be while dad is over seas until late September. Shes an australian shepherd mix and insanely smart. between my brother, parents, and myself we've got three aussies and they're amazing dogs. Mara, mine, is by far the most active, the other two are pretty laid back.
