Geocaching is so much fun. It's not what you find....it's the finding it. My kids are crazy about it. And as stated above, wherever you go, there are bound to be caches nearby. We always go caching in the Wrangler, so that it seems all-the-more like an adventure. It really is good-quality family time when you're out hunting. Give it a try! www.geocaching.com

Anything that fits in the container! Mostly little dollar store stuff, I see a lot of golf tees, buttons, pins, nothing very expensive. Usually.

I have put one out and pre-filled it with tools, called the "Hwy 97 Tool Kit Cache" - take a tool leave a tool. It's been fairly popular, and of course no one really has to follow the theme. In other words, there are not many tools left in it, but some that are in there are ones that other people have traded.

Another one I have, called "Craig's Key Ring Cache - Or - The Road to Mammoth" contains, of all things, key rings for trade. I just went and bought a bunch at the dollar store.

Then there are what are called "Travel Bugs." These trinkets have a dog tag attached, which members can buy on geocaching.com. You buy the dog tag for a few bux, register the number on the site, attach the chain to whatever you want the Travel Bug to be, and set it free at a Geocache. Then as people find it and log their find on geocaching.com, you can trace its journey.

I have a Travel Bug I started off in a Geocache here in Klamath Falls on 6/16/2007 which is currently in France. The log shows it has traveled 6893.5 miles from where I launched it (Air miles, of course) and I can view a map on the geocaching.com web site that shows its route and all its stops. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=887557

I enjoy the hobby, or game, or sport, or whatever it is... although any more I just sign the logs and don't bother to trade items, generally.

when you go to the "hide and seek". How do you know if it has been found or not? Should i steer clear of Older ones?

The same cache can be found over and over again. If the cache has swag, usually McToys or trinkets, you can trade. Otherwise, just sign the log book and rehide. If you want swag, just look for the larger caches.

Just don't do it in a city or you can expect to be detained by the police. Damn geocachers shut down one of the gates at a base I was stationed at because their cache was under an overpass 50 yards from the gate. Someone saw them placing a suspicious package and called the cops.

Basically, it's littering, all in the name of fun.

Aside from that, it might actually be interesting if people used a map, compass and their brains, rather than electronic gizmo to tell them where they are.

It's also an atrocious use of ammo cans and drives up ammo can prices.

You're both certainly welcome to your opinion, but don't knock it if you've never tried it.
