What constitutes a "Real Jeep"?

ok, i've seen too many posts on what is, and what isn't, a 'real Jeep'. a while back, Libertys weren't 'real Jeeps'. then the Commander. next was the discussion of the JK.......'real Jeep or not?' and now we have the MK's.

so what's the deal? what IS a "Real Jeep"? is it not good enough for you that it has a JEEP nameplate on it?

a jeep is a jeep is a jeep to me.

I think most of this "real jeepness" comes from wrangler owners though to be honest. I dont really argue with them, cause they think they are right no matter what.

A jeep is something not purchased by daddy, and never plays rap.

Depends on what your determination of a Jeep is, is a Jeep just a name brand or is it a word you use to describe something. IMO Jeep means offroad, if you take your Jeep offroad then it's a real Jeep. If you don't, then you don't but you still own a Jeep.

I don't think I've ever been told that my Jeep is a "Real Jeep", I know I've been told several times I should get a "real Jeep". Thing is you can't take it personally, you have to remember that you're dealing with someone who has an inferiority complex due to having a small unit. It's usually just a way to set yourself apart from others to make you feel superior, when in all actuality it makes you look like an idiot. I deal with that all the time in my local club, I'm usually the only LWB Jeep there on wheeling trips. I always have a good time and I enjoy changing sterotypes and showing them what a non real Jeep can actually do.

I think most Jeep owners, including most Wrangler owners, would consider the Cherokee a proven, real Jeep. The two are legendary. It's got my respect. The ones with a solid front axle are the ones I hold the highest. That includes MBs, CJs and FSJs.

Yeah those too. I was just listing the old ones like Jeepsters, MBs, CJs, FSJs in addition to the more recent YJ, TJ, JK, XJ, MJ, ZJ and WJ that most people were probably thinking when I mentioned solid front axle. I would add the Vietnam-era Mutt, which had independent suspension.
