went wheeling with my x this weekend.
I have wanted a Jeep Wrangler since I was 15 years old. For one reason or another I never got one. Now, 20 years later, I finally got one!
I've had my Wrangler X for about a year, running it stock until about 2 months ago when I replaced the rubber for 31/10.50 MT/Rs. I will be upgrading the suspension to OME 2.5 this summer and get some armor as well.My 8-year-old niece and 16-year-old nephew were visting me and my wife in Raleigh, NC from Miami, FL this Easter weekend and they wanted to go to Uwharrie Nat'l Forest and go on some trails. I agreed, but only if went on the mild trails. In hindsight, my definition of MILD was a bit skewed. MILD may have meant MILD for someone with 35s on 5 inches of lift, but certainly not for a stock Wrangler on 31s! We managed to get through Falls Dam trail with no damage, but a few battle scars to the t-case skid plate. My MT/Rs are awesome and made it through with no problems. There were a few other Jeeps on the trail with flat tires that had gotten torn up by some of the sharp rocks, but the MT/Rs didn't even get scratched! Needless to say, we spent most of the next day cleaning my Jeep - since we rode topless and with no doors! We have dust and dirt in places I never knew existed - I now also realize the benefit of Herculining the tub! Just hose it down! Well, all in all, my experience was great! The adrenaline rush of trying to maneuver the trails was great. The immediate comraderie from all the other offroaders was pleasantly surprising, as was the help that everyone offered. It was a first for all of us, and despite the screams from my niece and my wife during the trail, we all had a great time. We relaxed by the lake and had a picnic afterwards, listening to my 8-year old niece rehashing, in great detail, the tales of how we almost died on the most treacherous trail on Earth! It was an enjoyable weekend - gotta do it again - but with my 2.5 OME lift and some armor. Thanks for all the tips and the stories. I'm glad I can finally share mine. Alex

i had my 95 wrangler so covered in mud that i had to use an ice scrapper to get the wind sheild clear enough to see it actually made it into an issue of 4wheeler with all four wheels spraying mud everywhere

I guess not taking care of it in the first place would explain the "my X's" thing.

It was also the first time I used 4-LO. I'll need to take some pointers as to what to do/not to do in the future when using 4-HI and 4-LO. Alex |
