So was driving the gf to Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport today and was making the approach to the large entrance turn (a probably 1/2 mile long turn that is very sharp and on a high bank that you have to make to enter the airport for those who are not familiar) and I heard a tapping that sounded like I had something stuck under the car. Sure enough, moments later, I lost the power steering (doing 65ish) and started smelling a burning smell coming from my car. The serpentine belt frayed and melted. I had to force the steering wheel to the left to stay on the turn, and luckily had enough momentum to coast almost all the way to the parking garage without incident. It was tough as hell to keep the wheel turned and not run into the wall on the side of the ramp, or into any other cars around me. Once I stopped, I opened the hood and found the anti-freeze pouring out eveywhere and the radiator steaming up, probably overheated when the belt melted. I was beyond pissed and could only run in quickly and say goodbye to the gf in the airport before going back out to wait for AAA. To make matters worse, evidently I only have basic AAA (beeon my Dads plan since college and never upgraded ), under which a towing is free for the first 5 miles and $4 thereafter. Had it towed all the way back to Miami and the towing cost me $150. All in all, a sh1tty day.
Now, I can add this to the laundry list of problem with my POS GT:
1) 2 weeks after buying the car, the power cable to the fuel-management computer got a kink in it and the engine shut off ON THE HIGHWAY.
2) At 34,000 miles the sprocket that turns the drivers side cam on the crank exploded while I was driving in traffic, causing me to need an ENTIRELY NEW MOTOR.
3) Pinion seal blew a short while after that
4) Today's fun.
I think its time to sell the GT.
