The WD in WD40 stands for WATER DISPLACEMENT. It was not formulated as a penetrating oil or anything else. Because it is a light patroleum oil it works a little better than water for penetrating rusted parts, lubricating, and cleaning things.
If you think WD40 is a GOOD penetrating oil you have NEVER used a real penetrating oil. Gunk Liquid Wrench is a good penetrating oil. The BEST I have ever used is Seafoam Deep Creep, but it is expensive.
All the hype with WD40 is marketing and urban legend. I put WD40 in the same category as Duct Tape as a problem solver.

WD-40 is crap. If you think it's great you have never used anything else.

Not at all. I said it works a little better than water. Water is a pretty sorry penetrating oil an lubricant.
WD40 is a VERY old product. It really isn't all that great at a water displacer compared to spray silicone oil.
Here again, marketing hype and urban legend.

Add PB Blaster to the list of good penetrating oils. WD40 sucks as a penetrating oil.

I AM IN NO WAY RECOMMENDING THIS...BUT IM NOT TOTALLY AGAINST IT

If you break the bead of your tire off the rim, you can put a TON of wd-40 in the tire, light it (mind your face) and whala tire is back on the rim.

I usually use WD40 (have started to use PB Blaster lately though) and De-chlorinated brake cleaner to clean my guns.

Duct tape, bungee cords, zip ties, and WD40 are some of the greatest problem solvers know to man.

#27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

I agree with this. I used WD to clean up my drumset stands etc and keep them from rusting. It works great and months later it still has that "feeling" to it... like slippery deliciousness.

Oh and i didnt catch the part about water... sorry lol.

X2 use a small amount of ether

Something i forgot, i use WD-40 to change tires. After breaking the bead, spray down both beads and the tire almost jumps off the wheel! Works well on heavy truck tires and aluminum wheels.
