Visit from Ivan

Anybody else get a visit from Ivan? And my friends laughed at me getting a lift and mud tires. I was one of the few who couple get around yesterday morning. Lots of trees down and had an Oak tree land right in my driveway(Three feet from my Cherokee). I faired well and got lucky with trees missing my home by feet. It sucked. Had agirl on my couch I found curled up in my hallway in the middle of the night shaking. No power, water, cell phone reception, land phone lines. It's kinda like camping without the complimentary showers. Man,....we are starting to reek down here. If there is anybody in Pensacola that needs food, my friends are managers of the Village Inn resteraunts and are going to be donating food on Saturday. At least wolly world will open soon.

It's been raining all day here in Pittsburgh. But then again it's hard to tell if it's because of Ivan or if it's just a normal day in Pittsburgh. The lift definitely makes the big standing puddles we get around here a lot more fun though. When Frances came through I got the joy of pulling an explorer though a big standing puddle due to a clogged drain. He swamped it somehow and stalled it out, wouldn't start. Best part was I drove around him, and then backed up into the water again to tie a line and pull him out. It was worth getting wet.

Seattle may get more rain than we do but we have more miserable cloudy days, so beat that.

I am able to write because I work for a telco with a generator the size of my jeep and a direct link to our Atlanta location. Sometimes it's good to work here. I have a pic of my playing in the water and one of my truck next to my now covered driveway. I will try to get them up whenever possible. Definitely no pictures of my Jeep in the hurricane. I would have had a very good chance of getting killed,...or having my camera get ruined. ;-)

Just for you Bear. Yea so it's pittsburgh and not florida, and its a WJ and not an XJ but it's all I had to work with taking pictures out my window at work with a picture phone, but it is Ivan! In a slightly weaker form. We're just getting swamped here. Drains are backing up and things are starting to flood Means more free parking for me.

I am hoping to see something from the eye of the storm where the only vehicles that can travel are Jeeps.....

I wish we were in the eye. That would have at least been a break.

saw a stocker go through a street pond on the Channel 4 pittsburgh news. Was hoping to see XJ Matt playing around. We got about 4-5 inches about an hour below Pitts. Enough for me to help out a stranded Hummer....yes...check out my post on it.

I'm in Hattiesburg MS about an hour from the coast, and we luckily got completely missed. We were expecting to get it much worse....
