Veteran's Day

On the eleventh day, of the eleventh month on the eleventh hour of 1918, the armistice between the allies and Germany was signed signifying the end of world war 1.

After WW2 many countries began to honor all Veterans on this date and the United States is no different. To anyone who has ever put on the uniform and sacrificed so much to defend our freedoms, thank you.

Even though I would be out of a job, I have to agree.

The word in itself just means someone who has a long service in a field (ie police etc). We are always going to have Vets. In the context it was meant for yesterday it was for persons who have served in the US Military. Please don't confuse Veterans day and Memorial day.

Irritates me to no end when people confuse the two.

I think my point was overlooked. I clearly know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I served five years in the army from mid 2001 to October of 2006. Joined during peacetime and was medically discharged because of those little pow wows going on in the part of the globe most westerners are unfamiliar.

War is not something I wish upon anyone. Hence my statement.

War has nothing to do with being a Vet. Many Vets joined and served during peacetime. They are still Veterans. So with your statement am I to assume that you believe we no longer need the armed forces?

Then enlighten us on your definition of a Vet so we can better understand the thought process of Anticanman, because right now your posts are so full of contradiction that it seems you stayed in the Agent Orange room just a little bit too long..

Zero contradiction. I was just pointing out that the world would be a better place without us killing each other. No war = one less reason for people to suffer. And not like the ultimate sacrifice which is observed by Memorial Day. Veterans carry an experience unlike that of civilians here in this country. I worked as a behavioral health specialist and saw the emotional scars that went far deeper than any physical ones could. Not being able to function wihout showing any signs of physical pain is one if the horrors of PTSD. I, myself have suffered from survivors guilt for years now. Any idea why the suicide rate for military personnel is the highest of any occupation in this country?

It doesn't have to do with a room full of herbicides. Whatever the hell that was supposed to mean. Bash me for my pipe dream. I don't care. As a medic, Ambugirl should know what I'm talking about and relate at least slightly. I don't have any less respect for the men and women who serve, I would still gladly lay down my life so that any one of my battle buddies could live just one more day.

Now that I understand and appreciate. Even if it is a pipe dream it is a great one. No shame at all in that coming from someone who has also witnessed family members and friends who suffer severely from PTSD.
