Trolling

I've seen many people on many different forums be called a troll, or being accused of trolling. What exactly does that mean? Maybe a dumb question, but I've never really understood.

all your trolling needs

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll

Quote:
An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Very common in the world of sports messageboards. A fan of a rival team will "troll" by making derogatory comments about the home team. Usually intended to stir the pot. They are also called "flamers" since their posts are generally inflammatory.

Before all this internet crap redefined things, trolling was slang for going out looking to pick up new chicks.

How many times do I have to tell you, the guy in the trenchcoat in the public bathroom stall is NOT your doctor no matter how many examinations he gives you.
