Trail Fix Tricks

I was just wondering if any of you guys had any quick trail fix tricks that you were willing to share with the rest of us?

Here is a new one that I had never seen before! It is for a bent or tacoed tie rod!

This guy bent his tie rod really bad! He took it off and put it inbetween two trees and bent it back (as straight as he could) with a tow strap and another jeep! Then he took the handle off of his high lift jack and sleaved the tie rod with the handle! Then put the tie rod back on and wheeled for the rest of the day!

THATS A KICK A$$ TRICK!!!!!!

Do you have any tricks?

You had to see this one to believe it. A guy broke one of his rear axle shafts on his Jeep. Usually this means you have to get a new axle shaft or get towed off the trail before you can do anything. But not this guy. He took a tree limb and tied it to the side of the jeep, one end behind the rear fender and the other end in front of it. This prevented the tire and axle from coming out so he could drive it off the trail. Amazing!

A guy went wheelin with had full size oil filter on his 258 broke motor mount put hole into side of filter . took one of those old round Qaker state oil cans rvted it to death slide it over filter and used heavy duty zipties on it he drove it for about 2 weeks before changing it.

#1 trail fix - DONT WHEEL ALONE!

Way to many of my friends have been stupid lately and taken their stockers out alone at night and got stuck! I'm tired of pulling you idiots out! Quit wheeling alone and at least have another stocker there to try to pull you out! GEEZ

I've got two tricks I'm willing to share. You just never know when one of these tricks on the post saves somebodies bacon some day. Good thread idea there Big Kev.

The first trick I've ended up using twice on different vehicles mind you. The first, was a 1947 CJ2A I owned years ago and raced at a bunch of rallies around the province and had a blast doing it.
The second was on a Dodge full size on the trail. The frost plug blew out on both vehicles and I cut a piece of green poplar that was slightly bigger than the hole to be filled. After whittling them down to a size fairly close to what was needed we jammed them into the blown hole and tapped them in a little further with a few hits from a hammer. The major leak was now sealed and the minor ones were sealed up with a can of rad sealer.

To tell you the truth, on the flattie we ended up putting two things of rad sealer in two small shakers of pepper, and a couple of egg whites that we had in the camper that weekend. (no we weren't making breakfast for camp) Everything we added sealed the leaks more and more. I ended up racing for two more years with that plug and until I finally bought a new frost plug.

The full sized Dodge made it from the trail, home with his plug with only minor leaks. You do have to remember to flush all that crud out of the rad mind you once you get home but the vehicle wasn't left on the trail.

The second trick: One of our club members fan blade cut his lower rad hose when the body flexed some in an obstacle. I happen to carry around a 3/4'' drive socket set for axles and pinion nuts when I', wheeling, so we found a socket (1 1/6'' I believe) and slipped it into the hose because it ws now too short by a little.
Put a good tight hose clamp on both ends and away he went. Made it home again with that fix. Ran a little hot because the 3/4" wasn't quite big enough for proper flow but he made it.
