Toxic Christmas Tree
Just saw a story on the morning news about a woman in Corpus Christi who read the label attached to the artificial Christmas tree she picked up from WallyWorld.
something like: "Prop 65 warning - may contain Lead, know by CA to cause cancer - wash hands after using. Made in China" Poor lady is recovering from cancer now. She said she returned it and will not by anything made in China anymore. Umm - no boat, no light, no motor car - not a single luxury (?)

If there is any solder anywhere in the wiring then yes, it contains lead. Is the lady going to throw out every electrical device she owns? TV, computer, microwave, automobile (car battery).
The company making the trees is only following Californias over protective consumer laws so the trees can be sold in California. In California everything causes cancer. Now the news is reporting that people who work the graveyard shift are more likely to get cancer.

Everything causes cancer. I do agree though, that we need to stop buying from China. They have, again and again, proven themselves to be our enemy.

I can't stand it when someone says their plastic christmas tree is more environmentally friendly than real trees.
Real trees are a renewable resource and biodegradeble. That plastic and metal monstrosity will still be sitting in a dump pile for hundreds of years. Buy one if you don't want the mess of a real one, not because of a hippy delusion that you're saving the planet.

While I personally love real trees, they are fire hazards and need too much upkeep.

I have invested in a nice, new, leaded, clean, fake tree so that I never have to deal with that crap again. I no longer have to worry about watering (which I did, btw), needles, clean up, disposal and everything else that comes with a real tree. Having a fake tree in no way makes me less of a Republican.

Can't beat the smell of a real tree in the house for the Holidays. The needles are a minor nuisance, no worse to methan digging an artificial out of the back of the closet every year then trying to get it back in there when Xmas is over.

We always have a real tree but we stopped with the pines a long time ago. We now get cypress because we like the look and there aren't any needles like pines.
