Today's Jeep Recovery *Pictures*

Last night I was stuck and was stuck good. So good in fact that 3 different tow trucks couldn't get me out (two of which almost got stuck themselves) and after 6 hours, I eventually called it a night and got a room at the nearby Marriott. Story here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f317/sos-emergency-tow-needed-calling-all-jeeps-near-victorville-654598/

But thanks to this board, the rescue party showed up the next morning. mrblaine called one of his friends and just before noon, Chris showed up with a few of his buddies sporting two TJs with winches and a Dodge RAM for backup. They didn't even need the RAM.

It took some doing, but with one winch cable strapped to the front tow hook and one on the rear trailer hitch, she came out beautifully. Of course, I sustained some cosmetic damage to the entire passenger side, but I expected that the moment that I landed in the rut. The good news is, there was zero mechanical damage and I think that's thanks to Chris and his buddy Curt. Had one vehicle alone tried to winch me out, I would have scraped along the entire edge of the ridge, which would have meant dragging along the concrete-like dirt for 50+ feet.

After the recovery, the road almost looked like a bona-fide trail, or even an ice rink. A big thumbs up goes to Chris, Curt, and the other two gals they were with from MyJeepRocks.com. And to mrblaine for giving them a call. If it weren't for this board, I'd probably still be stuck out there.

And lesson learned: If you're late to a meetup with other Jeeps and can't find them, don't go wheeling on your own.

Your license plate is hysterically ironic.

What's the story with everyone ragging on the Liberty (not the first time I've heard this)? It's a Jeep, is it not? I don't know that any vehicle wouldn't have gotten stuck in that ridge. The only thing that could have prevented it was driver knowledge, but I didn't take notice of the slightly caved in snow to the right of the path. Live and learn, but I spent a good 4 hours out there and the Liberty went above and beyond what I thought it was capable of. At one point, I passed two dirt bikes who couldn't get any traction on the trail I was on. And I don't even have dedicated snow tires. Is it as good at rock climbing as the TJ's that came to help? Not even close, but it's a very capable off-road vehicle. I've driven other 4x4s and I'd be hard pressed to believe that many stock 4x4 SUVS can match the off-road performance of the Liberty.

It's a chrysler with Jeep decals. I just don't like Jeeps after Chrysler took over. They went from off road vehicles to mommy mobiles built to compete with GM, Ford, ect starting with the ZJ. They've all got that lame modern blown out look to em, they're all more fashion than function now.

Yes and no. A winch wouldn't have helped me in this situation as there was nothing around to winch into. I am, however, getting a recovery strap with some D-shackles so that I can help out if I ever encounter anyone that's stuck.

Google "Pull pal"

the number of times we'e used it to self-recover our utility truck is pretty impressive.

I have one in my full kit, and have self-recovered my XJ using it and a high-lift jack.

Glad you got it out dude.

Oh, and seriously, shut the **** with all the anti Liberty stuff.

The new kk is awesome, we've got 3000 miles on ours and we love it. (I have nothing to say about the kj)

The only "non jeeps" in my eyes are those equipped with transverse engines, and rear wheel drive.
