thoughts on a new truck, not a jeep but still
Vid:
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Ford-Unveils-the-2010-at_196629.htm Report about it: http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-f-150-raptor.html soo i was just browsing the web and found the new 2010 Ford F-150 Raptor its looks kinda cool comes stock with 35"s and larger travel suspension tuned by fox and its basically there "baja" edition of the truck. also has a 320hp v8 or if you wait longer a 400hp v8 and features as electronic locking diffs. its not out yet but will be soon, but i mean i am just curious if anyone has thoughts on it or it's possible off-road capabilites or anything?

If I wanted a truck as close to a Jeep I could get ( without getting a J-10 or Commanche ) I would get a Dodge Power Wagon they came out with recently.

Last year they were testing the prototype near here when I ran into them. Luckily I knew one of the people running the test or they would have never let me near the vehicle. I happened to be driving a Dodge Power Wagon at the time....the Ford is much better.

Wow! This is the first I have come across this Ford Raptor. I cannot wait to see pricing options on them. Very good looking truck.

isn't the power wagon more of a tow rig and not for desert racing? just looking at dodge's site it says its got a wiring harness, center console, tow hitch and a few other things...nothing suspension wise.

In a contest wth some other stanch competitors this rig kicked butt. Locked rear end. Low gearing, and tough. Out of ten, the Range Rover won it but the PW was 3rd. Jeep Rubicon was not involved.

More than a tow rig, it comes with front and rear lockers, sway bar disconnect, BFG TAs (can't remember size) and heavy duty suspension. Problems I have seen include death wobble on some and poor performance in soft sand. They are still a very nice rig, but I like the Ford better.

Go with the Ram Power Wagon. We have one and it does some amazing stuff. The Power Wagon has beefed up axles over a std Ram 2500, macho skids, Warn 12k winch, fr/rr lockers, electronic sway bar disconnect, BFG AT 33s, 4.56 gears, Bilstein shocks, and about 2 inches more lift over a std Ram 2500. The Power Wagon is essentially a Ram 2500 with an off road package on roids. Much more capable off road than that Ford Raptor. Looks like the Ford also has IFS

Well the Raptor is more of a high speed desert runner then a trail truck. It will offer some awesome features, such as 6.2L V8 with 400hp/torque, suspension travel of 11.2/13.4 inches F/R, wider track of roughly 7 inches, Fox Racing shocks (only internal bypass shocks offered on a street truck), 315/70R17 BFG A/T TA tires (35 inchers), rear locker good for up to 62mph in high range, stock aux. switch board, and of course heavier duty suspension components, performance exhaust, and necessary skidplates.
Here's a test done in Peterson's 4 Wheel and Off Road mag: http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/featuredvehicles/131_0904_2010_ford_f150_raptor_svt/index.html |
