I have gone to a few. Its been sometime ago though. Mostly a bunch of junk. Lots of bicycles, lawnmowers etc....... They were much better "back in the day" when you could actually buy guns etc... Those days are long gone

Make sure you bring along someone who knows bikes, auctions are the prime case of caveat emptor.

the ones in my area only sold complete junk, nothing over $2000, those went to car dealer auctions to get a better price, I wouldn't expect much luck unless you live in a big city

Some cities lease their motors from a local dealer and trade them in every year or two. Then the dealers sell them as used.

Good luck police equipment is usually ridden hard.

I misunderstood, I thought you were looking for Police motors, which might be in good shape, if they have them. The seized bikes might be in better shape since they were more than likely privately owned. It's alway hit or miss with auctions though. See if you can get a inventory list before you go, to see if it is worth the trip.

Hell... Give it a look. Thats the good and the bad thing about auctions. You never know what you might find.

Good Luck

I drove by the Dallas auction lot once to have a look. It was mostly abandoned junk that got hauled to the police lot. I didn't bother staying long. Think of most of it as something so crappy that it wasn't worth paying to get out of impound, so they let the city just keep it.

I've been to a local small-town police auction. Yes, there were a lot of bicycles, lawnmowers, etc., but there were also a vew ex-DMV vehicles, and a couple seized vehicles.
The first thing is...either know what you are looking for, or bring someone along who knows. You won't have time to "look up" stuff there.
Also, expect to pay close to normal street-sale prices for anything worth getting. Dealers and backyard dealers (the guys that sell a dozen cars off the front lawn of their home) will also be there, looking for something they can "flip". They will push the price up to the limit they feel they can go and still turn a profit. And if they aren't bidding on something, it is most likely because they know there is something wrong with it that is EXPENSIVE.

By all means go....but don't be surprised if you some away empty-handed.
