They are trying to STEAL my lift money!! Please HELP!

I go to the University of Cincinnati and since Ohio froze tuition rates this year they are trying to be very clever about ways to recover the money. They are trying to force everyone who has health insurance with more than a $250 yearly deductible (Who in the heck has only a $250 deductible unless you want to pay premiums out the butt) to enroll in their health insurance policy. They want to charge about double what I am paying now for less coverage than I have now.

I little background on me, I'm 20, married, no kids, and we have a very good health insurance policy, much better and inexpensive than the one they are offering.

Anyone have any legal insight on this, if I end up having to pay this it's going to have to come out of the money I had saved for a lift so PLEASE HELP!

THANKS!

So they are making you take out a supplementary health plan? Why? What is the reasoning behind that? Never underestimate government's lust for your money.

They are trying to make the entire student body take out a completely new policy through the school. They said its bc to many students don't have health insurance or have insurance with a deductible that is to high. I say that is none of my dang problem and stop trying to fix the decisions stupid people make! If they want to pay a high deductible, who cares! But they are saying that my $1000 for two people (my wife and I) is to high and I have to take theirs which is $250 for one person.

Tuition I believe is froze in Ohio right now which usually allows an increase of about $500 a year. Guess what the insurance costs...$480.

Yeah, go figure!

You're school doesn't have a health insurance waiver form? My school offers health insurance, but if you already have insurance, you fill out the waiver and they leave you alone.

Exactly, from what I know of health insurance plans and schools, they have to offer a waiver. They cannot force you to use their plan.

they have a waiver and I filled it out. But on the waiver they said that if your health insurance must have a max of $250 ded. and if not and you are audited you will be foreced to get theirs!

I don't see how this is legal. Please help out, I've saved this money for a lift and now they are trying to make me buy their insur!!!

From everything I understand they cant force you to take their insurance plan. You might want to call a lawyer or mabye your health care provider and ask them if its legal for them to force it. Ive never seen a deductable that low either unless you want to pay insane rates.

Agreed! and Thanks. I'll let you know what happens. I already talked to my insurance broker and they said if I take the schools insurance and develop a sickness and then graduate, it'll be very hard to get insurance again or I'll pay insane rates.

This is all f'd up! Typical bureaucracy.

I would tell them to stick it. They can not have a policy at that school that makes you get their insurance period. If you already have insurance you are fine. Fill out the waiver and move on they cannot force you to get that insurance. If they try threaten them with a lawsuit. i can just about garantee they will fold.

That's what you get for going to UC. Go to a real school like Xavier. Silly Bearcats.

Get your deductible to 250$ on monday. Tell the school you don't need their policy (with proof from your insurer) on tuesday. Call to get your deductible back to where it was on wednesday. Done deal.

I wouldn't say it's socialism. It sounds like the school is just trying to squeeze more cash out of the students because they can't do it the old way with tuition hikes.
