Talk me out of this!

OK, i know this is my second post about it today, but just read this is different.

Well ever since my dad got his Corvette i have been feeling the need to get something fast and cool. So today when i posted a problem with my dads car some guys told me to go over to the vette forum.... Well i did and after looking around a little bit i am REALLY tempted to dump my Jeep and get a corvette.... Although i know that this would just be another huge hassle for me.

PLEASE someone talk me out of doing this!

What are some bad aspects of corvettes that they wouldn't necessarily give me on the vette forums?

They don't have the acceleration of a Hayabusa.

Your age, the probability of you racing it and killing yourself (trust me, we've all been there) and the cost of your insurance both pre and post first accident.

Plus there is no such thing as maintenance free high-performance. The closer to the limits you push something, the more you have to baby it.

Besides, once you get a corvette, that isn't fast enough. Then you have to get it bored and stroked. Then that's not fast enough. Then you get it blown..then that's not fast enough. So you get nitrous..then either you blow the motor or that's not fast enough either..before you know it you have a rocket motor and/or a flux capacitor.

I was thinking about this too, but how much worse would the gas situation be than it is right now with a YJ.

- Women will think you have a small penis (redundant really because then they just think you have a lot of money)

- No drain plugs!!

I don't know really. I used to work at an exotic autos dealership in Seattle and got to drive virtually every dream car you can imagine: Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus ... whatever the rich pricks would import and sell/trade off when they got bored of it. Yeah, they might turn some heads but I'd still rather be in the Jeep with the top and doors off any day. I'm just bored to death with cars. Maybe I'll catch interest again when I start nearing the whole mid-life crisis thing.

If you find your self at 16 coming into enough money to buy a corvette and or a motorcycle...and somehoe afford the insurance.. i say you do the right thing and take some of that easy come easy go money you have now, like i DID NOT do when i was your age and put it away.. because very soon your going to need it when your not living at home.. what good is a corvette 5 years from now when you dumped evey dime you made living rent free at home and cannot pay your bills or ... never get neerly the investment back of what you dumped into the car...

a corvette is something you buy when your older, and you can afford it and the low insurance rate you earned by not racking something up when your 16..

When i was 16.. i wanted a GSX-R750... pretty cheap used..., but the insurance was $5000 a year (Canadian) and thats just not a smart move

Well lets assume its like a 1998 Corvette... LS1 5.7L... so basically the exact same as a silverado vortec 5.7L and 200 other GM cars..

trade the trucks weight for the vettes compression and bigger injectors and tendency to be floored from light to light and they prolly get the same... 11mpg? 12 maybe

my brother has a '99 Z71 and it would cost him like $50 a day in gas just messing around town all day

Well...i went through the same thing like 4 - 5 years ago... but it was with a 240SX and a bunch of Blitz parts and a motor swap... lost my *** with that car....

and now i find myself looking at a Ram with a cummins and a bunch of Bully Dog parts... but difference is now.. debts come first and i work 20 hours a day so don't get the chance to blow my money on impulse items anymore...

I would only trade my 95 YJ for a 1950's Vette.

all the vettes i have ever driven had the crap run out of them already.. so be wise if you go shop for one

and the late 70's early 80's vette's were during the gas crisis so they only have less than 200 horsepower.. you might as well get a 5.0 mustang for 2 grand
