Stupid Illinois Earthqauke

I woke up about 4am this morning and thought that something fell over in the next room. I went back to sleep. Apparently, an earthquake is what woke me up. Darn earthquakes need to let me sleep another hour.

The Earth is an angry mother at times.
Can you imagine if the Yellowstone Caldera were to blow?

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.- Helen Keller

I woke up at about 4 thinking a snow plow was driving by...didn't really think much of it. Others I've talked to were woken up too, probably by the quake.

It woke me up too. Weird how you can still feel it when it is over 50 miles away!

Seriously how long would the east coast have to prepare? How long would the earth be stuck in ash winter?

I heard it was in the neighborhood of 4.0 magnitude. We don't even consider that an earthquake around here. We've had a few 6.0+ off of the Humboldt coast over the past few weeks and they've just been considered minor nuisances.

Its odd how there has been so much significant earth movement on the west coast and now tectonically stable areas like Illinois and Haiti have been hit within the past month. I dare say, we're about to see **** happen on a global scale.

Dude, it's the Earth's surface moving. If the floor in your living room suddenly moved, wouldn't you expect to feel it in the bedroom?

since the national geologic survey monitor volcanoes, ridges, plate tectonics and faults constantly ( yes geology is not just looking at rocks) there may be decent warning to let people know.

I am curious to see where the epicenter was and what kind of wave was created.

edit: this shows the epicenter and where it was felt the most. Luckily it was only a 3.8
