Straight Edge Shavers, Chime In

I am tired of spending money on these crappy razors out now, I used to have a barber in DC who did straight edge shaves as well as cuts. But, here in NJ I cannot find anyone who does straight edge shaves so I am thinking of jumping online and grabbing a straight edge razor and having a slice at it.....

Anybody have any input? What razor do you use? accesories?

I use a merkur double edge I got from that place that rhymes with "blarazon". There's plenty of blades to choose from, and there's a variety blade pack so you can try out several brands.

I started using a DE safety razor because of the cost factor, now I just like to use them when I do shave. There is a technique you have to get down, find the right soap or cream/brush/blade for you, and treat it like a ritual. At least it makes you feel a little manlier while emasculating yourself.

I switched to double edged safety razors about a half year ago, never going back.

If you're looking for cheap, what I do is get a 12 pack of disposable razors, use them twice (not that I'd have to, I forget to buy them sometimes.) I don't shave every day so a $3 pack of razors lasts me a month.

interestingly enough... my barber told me they are no longer allowed to use the old straight razors anymore b/c of health and liability laws. they have to use disposable 'razor clips' and toss them after each use. so many barbers are just giving up the use of razors. gotta love gub'ment.

I made the switch to a DE razer a few months back. Grabbed an edwin jagger de89, came with 5 derby blades. And it was the best decision i've made as far as shaving goes. I will never use a cartridge razor again. The big problems i had with cartridge razors was the constant irritation and burning every time I went against the grain. I would rarely cut myself, but my face would be red all over. And burned like hell, It made me hate shaving. You can get a 100pk of DE blades for around $10 and they will last you years, no doubt. Dollar shave club is the same crappy razors you get at walmart, just cheaper.
