Sony DSC w50 opinions wanted

Anyone have this camera or something similar? Its 6 MP, 32 MB internal memory, 3x zoom and can be bought for $225.

I'm thinking of getting this camera for this weekend since I'm making a trip out of state and will most likely do some wheeling. The price, internal memory, and the available 4 GB and 8 GB memory sticks are the biggest factors pushing me towards this camera. I also own a Sony laptop, TV, etc. and they have always been free of any defects.

If you have this camera or a camera comparable to this in price and specs let me know what you think.

TIA

I have both a Sony High end video camera and a digital photo camera and have never had a complaint about either one. The digital camera I use is more than what you're looking for but it's a sony F828. Great camera and can be picked up really cheap on ebay now. Originally I think it was over 1k, now on ebay under 3-4 hundred. Sometimes less. But none the less you can't go wrong with a sony product. Good luck, and remember to post your first photos with it.

I bought a DSC W100, the 8MP big brother, about a month ago from Bestbuy.com. I got it for $307 delivered. Before it got here, I tested a Canon SD630 and liked it better. I took the Sony back to best buy. I ended up finding the Canon at Walmart.com for $346.00. Circuit City beat that price by 10%. I ended up getting the Canon for $311 with a free 512 MB card that even came with a $10.00 mail in rebate. I was happy with the deal.

I bought my DSCW50 from BestBuy in May for $225.00. I had them price match another stores deal.
I then got a 1GB duo pro memory stick from Office max for $30 on sale, and a VERY nice semi-soft cybershot carrying case off ebay for $11.

It was money well spent. I knew I would not need any megapixel over 6.0, because 8x10" is the largest I would ever print, and it does that with perfect clarity.

I got mine right before I went to Wyoming/Montana, and got a few poster quality pics. I ended up taking about 350 pics in 9 days, and some video (does video nicely).

I would highly suggest this camera. Very slim, good features that are easy to use, 2.5"lcd, and many options (tripods, waterproof casing, lenses, flash, gps unit, etc.)

I would get a better zoom than 3x. Get a 3 or 4mp camera with a 10x zoom.
You'll get better results.

Not many 10x zoom cameras will fit in my pocket.

It has 3x optical zoom. 15x total. Digital zoom sucks, though.

Even a 5x optical zoom is better than the additional 2-3MP.
I don't count digital. It's useless.

Personally, I would not buy a sony, I don't like their lenses, I would rather buy a Kodak with their better lenses.

The photos I take don't really need 10x zoom, but thanks for the suggestion. I currently have an Olympus Camedia C-3000 that has 3x optical and 2.5x digital zoom. This has been more than enough for me thus far.

My main reason for upgrading is because they no longer make the memory my current camera takes and 64 MB just isn't enough (80 photos or 1:30 of video ). I'm just looking for something that takes as good or better pictures than my current 3.3 MP, has abundant memory that will continue to be made for the next 5 years, and is not going to break the bank.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, I'm off to go get me a camera

So I was on Froogle today printing off prices lower than BestBuy and Circuit City to take and have them price match when I stumbled upon three sites with this camera, brand new, for ridiculously low prices. They are banana boat, camera city, and Royalcamera. Hopefully the link below works. Anyone ever heard of these, I'm a little leary about buying through them.

I'd be skeptical of Camera City. Camera prices way too low. Memory way too high. It doesn't add up.

From what I found, I wouldn't buy from them...read this

http://donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/h0191.htm

They are the same company...from the reviews it looks like they price just the camera, without the battery, cables, etc...

Sort of what I figured, I guess I'll try to do a price match at Best Buy with their price and see if it works but I'm sure it won't. Thanks for the help.

So I bought the camera yesterday and am waiting on my 2 GB memory stick. Initial reaction is that this camera is awesome for a novice. It is very easy to operate, the different photo options show up on the huge screen so you don't have to reference the manual to see if you're shooting in beach mode or low light. The internal 32 MB held 11 photos of pretty high quality, or about 1:30 of video that blew away my previous camera in terms of quality. Its so tiny too, and zoom is decent enough but like stated by someone else it could be better if you take a lot of outdoor photos etc. The only knock I have on this is that I feel like I could break the camera in my hands. I'm sure its sturdy and all but it just feels delicate, especially compared to my old massive camera. All in all though its a great buy for $225 and I would suggest it to anyone in the market. I'll be sure to post up some photos in due time.
