Someone stole my license plate...?
So i'm sittin inside a deli, look outside at the rear of the jeep and realize i don't have my regular license plate. there's one there, tags aren't expired, nothing seems wrong with it, but it's definitely not mine.
not sure if there's any connection, but lately there have been some robberies in my neighborhood that involve breaking into cars and garages and such.
what should i do about this?

Call the police... your current tag may be from a stolen car and the thief swapped it with your original one.

I don't usually look at the plate, it just so happens i was checkin' out the jeep's *** when it caught my eye. came home, checked the parent's vehicles to see if they swapped it for any reason, and still no luck.
i'm about to call them, write a report, and i'll come back and let ya'll know.

It's actually a very serious offense. When I was in Spain, my drunken friend thought it would be cool to steal European license plates for souvineers.
As the unlucky lottery would have it, he was chosen for the random bag search at the airport. The cops found the plates, ran the numbers, and, as expected, they came back as stolen. He ended up getting detained, spending the night in jail, and going before a judge a day or two later before they would let him leave the country.

They'd have to impount an awful lot of student's vehicles, then. It's pretty typical for students to keep their home state registration when going to school elsewhere.

I didn't notice when someone stole one of my plates until I went to renew the registration. I went to put the little sticker on it and noticed it wasn't expired, then I noticed the number was wrong. Who knows how long I was driving around like that. I did get to keep the plate though. And I didn't have to go very far to get new plates, just back inside. It took longer to get a police officer there than it did to get new plates at the DMV.
