Ski season starts tomorrow up in Killington. I'm making my reservations for the week-long ski trip tomorrow.

Man do I love Noreaster land...too bad I'm far from it now out here in South Dakota. Now I'm in the land of scorching hot summers and the land of much snow and wind during the winter. Plus it gets down right f'in cold. Week before xmas last year there was a span of 3-4 days where it didn't get above zero degrees. Then the day I flew to Vegas for xmas it was a whopping 10 degrees driving to the airport. Jeep didn't like that too much and neither did I.

Last year at the end of January I went skiing for 2 days at Windham, NY (south of Albany in the Catskills). The first day it didn't crack 0 degrees F. Then it was minus 22 that night. This was NOT the wind chill! Next morning -15 and 5 degrees on the slopes I was sweating because 5 degrees seemed warm by comparison.

My Honda Element wasn't happy about starting in -15. It went *rrrr-rrr* at first, then made this weird screeching noise at start up and the tires went *thump, thump* for the first few miles. Thank goodness it's fairly new and I use Mobil 1 5w-20. I wonder how the Jeep would do in -15? I wouldn't touch those plastic windows. If it regularly got that cold here I'd invest in an engine heater and hard top.

So it can get really cold in the Northeast. Even in NJ we got a week of singe digit-15 degree temps, which is unusual. Wouldn't want to be in the Dakotas though. Any good skiing? Wouldn't mind being in Colorado or Utah.

Made my reservation for Killington, Vermont. Now it's time to buy a ski rack!

There's a couple ski resorts up in the hills. Never been to them though. Those few days we had some wind too. Think we had strong enough wind where the wind chill reached -40 to -60 degress or something like that. The Jeep really does not like cranking in the cold weather and we get plenty of that here!!! I need to invest in an engine heater, and get my heater fixed!!!
