Smittybilt - Good?

Hey-

I'm interested in getting some Smittybilt bumpers and nerf bars (like this: http://www.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe?UID=2002041517322841&T1=12107%2B210&UREQA=1&UREQB=2&UREQC=3&UREQD=4&FNM=00&x=47&y=54 ).

Are those strong? .109" thick? I'll admit, they are just for the hitch but I love the looks and they won't get hit hard off-roading soon, but do you guys know if Smittybilt makes a good product and if I should spend my money?

Hey, I have the Smitty nerf bars on my TJ and I love them. They have taken some pretty good hits and nothing has happened to them. they look really good also. In my opinion they are a good product. Good luck.

smitty built bumpers. AKA ****ty built bumpers. I have them on my jeep. I would recomend aginst them.. Not very good. The back bumper is ok. The front bumper I think I could pretty much stand on it wrong and it would fall off. really low quality though. The tubes are very thin grade of metal. Not very strong. I would go with some other company on the hole thing seriously. check out http://trailready.com

they have some good bumpers. and check out. http://mountainoffroad.com good ones. and then bulletproof bumbers. The make some good bumpers and have a very good step bar rock gaurd. They are going to be more exspencie then smitty built but you pay for what you get.

Darn!

I really like the Smittybilt style. You know of anything similar?

I have never compared them side by side but they look just like Smittybuilts nerf bars and front bumper. The rear bumper has a receiver box built on where the Smitty built has a hitch that mounts to the frame and the bumper bolts over. The Smitty built is height adjustable which is great for a body lift. With steel end caps and powder coated paint they are tuff.

Wait....Now you're making it sound like the Smittybilt rear bumpers are better? Right?

How is a receiver box different from a hitch? I thought that was the same thing....

I have smitybilts all round. Slid sideways and smacked a tree real good, didn't even dent it. The front has taken a beating and not a scratch also. I'm looking at getting a new front bumper that is compatable with a winch and I'm thinking about buying the same bumper but with the winch plate.

the back bumper is build pretty good. Its built pretty well but the way that i mounts to the frame isan't the most strongest way to mount it. I had to reinforce mine to where I felt that it was strong enough. The fount bumper the way that they built it to mount to the frame is horrible.. It really is. even if they made it out of stronger matirial i still don't like the design. I too really like the style of the bumpers. but they really are poor qualitly i would say. I would go with something eles. personllaly. but hey if you want mine I will sell them too you.
