This was my issue as well. (no external Safety) and me coming from a shield which has a nice thumb safety if I may add, I was abit nervous about carrying a glock 19 but I wanted to have one so bad.

So I bought one, and have been carrying it around with me for about 2 months now, I feel more comfortable with it now but I do not carry one in the chamber yet on my glock....that is my next step....right, now just getting used to training with drawing the gun, racking the slide and getting on target.

I still carry my shield as its still hot, but once fall.winter get here...I'll be carrying my glock full time.

Next will be H&K's VP9 for me - then one of Kimber's Pro Carry .45s.
I've never been too concerned with safeties, I just don't carry with one in the pipe. Something slim with a manual decocker could take care of both those problems. but really, if you get the opportunity to shoot a G42 - I bet you'll like it! Big step up in comfort from my (now dusty) .40 G27!

Just picked up a Beretta ARX100. I love the features and especially the folding stock and quick release barrel. Makes it easy to pack in a Jeep.

Pull down on the two tabs forward of the magazine one on each side, then just tug the barrel out. It will be a nice quick swap to a 300 blackout barrel or other caliber once Beretta releases those.

does removal/replacement have any effect on maintaining zero if you have optics mounted?

on the SCAR they seem to be pretty proud of the fact that you can remove and replace barrels and as long as you torque down the 6 screws in the right pattern to the right torque they will hold zero.

That's always a concern but like the Ruger 10/22 Takedown, I don't believe it is an issue (kind of similar in design). The barrel with breech assembly is indexed to tight tolerances so it can only fit in a very specific way. When it locks in it is solid and has zero play. Also when the bolt is forward, it locks in the assembly and you can't remove it. I haven't had a chance to test whether or not swapping barrels affects zero, but I doubt it would significantly.
