I went to the range yesterday to make some last minute comparisons before I "pull the trigger" on my next Kimber.

I shot:

Ultra CDP II .45 and in the 9mm:

Ultra Covert II w/ crimson tracer grips standard

Ultra Tactical II

Sis Ultra

The all shot equally amazing with the 9mm CDP having the least recoil, they all fit my hand perfectly and I was dead on with all of them. As far as looks I'm leaning towards the covert at this point. Then comparing price, the CDP is cheaper than the rest. As far as weight, the tactical is slightly lighter, by a few ounces. I'm really having a tough time deciding to tell you the truth. I got to do a little more thinking but I'll be getting one of them after the Holidays

I ended up buying the Kimber Ultra CDP II in the 9mm, I decided to keep my XD .45 and sell the XD 9 subcompact. I pick it up on saturday

Immediate plans are to change out the magwell/mainspring housing with a smith & alexander and try to locate a couple wilson 9mm mag's. Future plans include a set of crimson trace grips, other than that, I think it should be perfect.

Here's a sweet little desktop kimber has for it, enjoy...I know I will

Clearly someone who has never shot a 9mm 1911. A 9mm 1911 is like buttah!

9mm
38 Super
.40 S&W
10mm
400 Corbon
.45 Super
.460 Rowland
.50 GI

All accepatable and wonderful 1911 chamberings. Variety is the spice of life! Don't tie yourself down to just one wom- er uh, caliber! Even if it is the best one!

Very nice! But pretty soon you will have to dump the XD45 for another 1911, this time in god's caliber (no that is not a contradiction to my last post).

Case in point

I tried the .45 (several of them actually) and I tried the 9mm, the 9mm was so much better in the Ultra, the .45 is a bit more recoil for a smaller gun IMO. I've already got a .45 for home defense, this Kimber will be my carry/target/fun gun. It's one I will be shooting most of the time, so I wanted the one that would be the most comfortable and the 9mm was definitely it. The way I see it, I will be using Corbon DPX +P just like in my .45, if I can't take down a threat with 8 rounds with a 9mm or a .45 I don't need to own a gun.

As for a bigger 1911 .45, one gun at a time, I do plan on getting myself a Dan Wesson one of these days, but I gotta do some saving for that one.

Ken, I'm just breakin' yer balls over the 9mm.
& Coyotes, It's nice to see someone else with micarta on a 1911 besides myself! I had a set milled about 3 years ago to attempt to match the grips on my Benchmade Ruckus.

Sold my 6" Colt Anaconda .45LC with Nill grip recently for good money.

Still I have a Glock 17 with Glock Xenon light, Trijicon night sight, tuned trigger (-2kg) and maritime spring cups for firing under water. Unfortunately no pictures at hand but I think anybody knows how it looks like.

My second is a Coonan .357 Mag semi Auto Pistol with long match trigger release from a 1911, Bo-Mar Micrometer sight and handmade leather holster for concealed carrying. The Coonan is for sale.

Those VZ ultraslim micarta grips are standard on the Dan Wesson Valor (serial #3, the one pictured above, is mine). The grips are just one of many quality parts DW uses and if you can't tell I am quite proud of that pistol.

I know, my buddy did the same thing when I told him I got the 9mm version of his gun. He was trying to get me going and said he was planning to buy his gf one because she couldn't handle his .45. I laughed and said, well considering I out shot you all day with your own .45 maybe I should giver her lessons.
