Security Cameras

So, I get home today and my Mountain bike has been stolen from my backyard. Thankfully they did not take my kids bike. I figure now its the time to install a security system, well just cameras for now. I want one at my front door and one at back of the house. I've been looking at various website, but I'm leaning to something from X10.com. They seem to have really good prices. I have a P.C. my kids use that I could hardwire into.
A little help

Forget X10...

Forget X10 Junk.

If you need some hand holding I would contact Super Circuits.com Very reputable and very helpful.

If you don't need the hand holding I would contact Security Cameras Direct.

Those two spots are where many people in the know go.

Thanks, I'll check that site out. I'm not sure what you mean by hand holding. These will be hard mounted.

I've had x10 stuff for a while and contrary to ^ belief they aren't junk.
I've taken my setup down because it's not needed and I got tired of squirrel emails.
I had a motion sensor and camera setup looking into my back yard and the Firecracker and Xray vision program that came with them. Everytime there was motion detected it would record for 15 seconds and send the file to me email. Nice part about the X10 is that you can combine it with other home automation stuff so you can have it take the video, email it, play a wav file saying "I have just recorded you in my back yard", and turn on spotlights in the yard.
I didn't get the mount but now they have a pan and tilt mount for the cameras also that you can control via Inet from anywhere.

You can get better quality stuff but you will pay for it. I don't think it makes sense to pay $5k for a system to protect $130 worth of bike(or whatever yours cost).

Well, its not all about the bike.(around $400 to replace) I've been wanting one for a while. I'm divorced now so when I'm out of town for the weekend it would be nice to have. I have my boat and jeep in my front driveway that sit there most of the time. I appreciate all comments.

This is what I use:

http://www.barcodesinc.com/everfocus...urity-dvrs.htm

It has great features in the DVR portion - ability to run multi-camera. Ability to record sound.. depending on the amount of features you want, they can be fairly in-expensive.

I am considering a wireless camera mounted inside my Jeep and have it record to the DVR when it is in range - so - if someone gets into my Jeep - I have a close-up video-recording of their visit.

That's a nice package.

I'm not looking to survey the whole neighborhood, just my house
If I had a larger shop I'd probably go for it. I'm thinking 2 cameras right now. Maybe 4 at the most.

I had the same problem with people stealing stuff outta my backyard. But instead of cameras for a security system I went and got my rott. She's very protective (and 105lbs) and wont let ANYONE in my house without me being there. But as you said you were outta the house a lot so the cameras would be a bet for ya. GOOD LUCK!
