I'm with trailboss on this one. Voting for someone based on their race is not a good way to vote, I don't care what color they are.

I can't even listen to that woman talk, she's so mind-numbingly stupid that I feel dumb just hearing her voice.
Furthermore, McCain couldn't have shot his campaign in the foot much more effectively than he did by choosing her to run as his VP.

African Americans would probably be the first demographic that you'd associate with voting for Obama based on race, right? According to link, over the past eight years, the African American demographic has averaged 64.33% Democratic, compared to a meager 6% average who voted Republican. What does that tell us? That African Americans have a general pre-disposition to vote Democrat. Which means in such case, the record turnout of African American voters that is expected this election is more than ten times likely to vote Democrat than Republican based on history. So even if Obama was white, the demographic in question would still be more inclined to vote Democrat. I do think, however, that you can easily argue that more people are voting in the United States than ever before based on Obama's race. The African American demographic believe (whether it's true or not, I don't know) that they have an invested interest in getting an African American Democrat into the White House, so they will likely show up in record numbers, but saying they'll vote for him based solely on his race is ignorant to a lot of voter data. Based on previous voter data and history, the voting African American population would still generally vote Democrat, even if a white man was running for office.

^ Not only that, but polls taken during the primary when Obama was running against Clinton, he had the support of less than half the voting black population. Take into consideration that other black candidates of the major parties have never done well even amongst the black populations in national elections, and it comes out to be more than "well, blacks are voting for him just because he's black."

^Thank you Sharpie & PJL for pointing that out. I'm sick and tired of people ignoring those facts in this election to support their own bigoted views.
To return to the OP, I can't tell you if Palin is smart, dumb, aware, aloof, anything. The only sound that ever comes out of her mouth is the far right's scripted neo-con propaganda. If she ever wanted to express an original idea of any kind, I'd listen to see what she says. But at this point I think she's a little fish in a great big pond. I'm not impressed. At all. The thought of her being on office truly scares me. I think McCain and Palin are a perfect illustration of the two factions that make up the Republican party right now. On one side you've got McCain's Repub's- traditional beliefs of the party are upheld-small gov't, fiscal responsibility, states rights, free market, etc. On the other side you've got Palin's brand of Repub-the Neo Con. They are a pushier group, who have a tendancy to force their social beliefs and desires upon others by claiming to be the "moral party," as though more liberal people have no morals or ethics and must be held in line. In my opinion there have been far too many socially based Republican scandals to allow them to tout that claim as a party. The Bush administration has been supported and influenced by the Neo Cons, and you can see how the administration has veered away from many of the traditional Repub values, much to our collective sorrow. They are emphasizing the Christian agenda as a major issue in politics, and are perfectly willing to step all over the Constitution to see their demands met. Both sides of the party share a number of common principles that have kept them united as a party, but we're seeing the departures in agreement on issues between the Repub candidates as well as average Republicans that may indicate a shaky foundation. This instability and, more importantly, incongruity in opinion is not the makings of a strong candidacy. How can you elect one person for president when the second-in-line for the job keeps disagreeing with him on major issues?

I think it is safe to say that more black people will vote as a result of obama being a candidate. Those poll numbers won't be available till after the election...
I said it before more people are voting this year (I assume). If the election was left up to the same people that voted in 04 i think the numbers would be considerably different. |

Don't know what you mean when you say Neo-Con. Neo-Cons were Dems that switched sides during the Regan Admin. Speaking of the Constitution - your not going to vote for obama who is on record as saying the Constitution / bill of rights is an out dated document. This coming from a lawyer who studied Constitutional law. Scary when you consider a lawyers job is to take the available information a twist it in defense of his case. |

I liked Mccain over Bush in 00. now I wont even entertain him. he's given up what 'maverick' status he had by towing the socially conservative mantra that has put him into the posistion he is now. the same posistion that alienates him from the independents, as they tend to be socially liberal, yet fiscally conservative. Quote:
the original 'neo cons' were not socially conservative, they were fiscally conservative and thats the reason why they 'jumped shipped' to the republican party. |
