Removing wrangler doors, state laws?
well, I'm new here on the forum, and I guess I'm a Jeep newbie as well (I've had my Jeep for 6 months now). I'm in new jersey, and its somewhat warm here now, and I've decided to remove my doors, but I read somewhere that states have regulations on whether you need mirrors or not when you remove doors. I was wondering if anyone here knows NJ's laws on this, or maybe where I can find out. Thanks

Here in Utah they require you to have at least a drivers side mirror, I would imagine NJ's laws are similar. You can buy relocation brackets that move your mirror mounts to the windshield hinges or just replace the mirrors with ones that bolt on to the windshield hinges. I've never been pulled over for not having any mirrors, although this summer I bought some new ones for the windshield and I broke 2 Torx bits trying to get the painted on bolts out. well.

Dezz,
You can buy inexpensive mirrors from any of the catalogs that will drop right into the hinge brackets.

The relocation brackets are like $25 and you can leave the mirrors in the relocation brackets with the door in place. The passenger side door (I have hard doors) will hit the mirror when fully opened so just be careful with it. The passenger mirror is also rendered fairly useless with the relo brackets and the hard doors. You just can't see much from the mirror. The driver's side mirror is still fine.

cool, thanks guys. although not really answering my question, I have decided to prolly get the mirrors you were talking about rayray, or the relocation brackets. Now i'm wondering whether or not I need both or just driver's side :P

The easiest way to do this, before you waste money on relo brackets, or new mirrors, is to call you local DMV (dept. of motor Veh.) and ask them the regulations and laws of driving without doors. In KY its legal to drive with no doors, and no side mirrors. Just check first and see what they say.

I was just down in Stewartsville, NJ for Rock Krawl 2001 and I saw about 200 Jeeps with no doors. Granted this place is out in the middle of no where, but call them and ask. They would know. http://ok4wd.com

If you have a YJ, a very cheap mirror is one from a bicycle. Pickup some aluminum C-channel, drill 3 holes .. one for the bolt to mount it, and 2 for the mirror to go through. Remove the bolt holding your windshield "spacer bar" in place, and bolt the C-channel to it. Twist the mirror into place, angle it right, and you have your mirror .. if required. Graphic description.
Another thing I did was visit a wrecker, and I pulled the windshield mirror off of a Commanche .. its wider and gives a better view of what's behind you.
