it died after microsoft wouldnt pay 2 million for the script. i think it was supposed to have like a $230 million budget that was being fronted by Fox and Universal and they didnt see enough profit margin i guess

That warthog didn't have 4 wheel steering either. I do wonder what they started with. Maybe a Chevy or Dodge 3/4 ton chasis?

You are right, good slo-mo catch. Kind of reminds me of the Jeep prototype with the dual hemi's.

The movie stopped production in 06 and has picked up again. Expected to be released sometime between 09 and 11. They have had financial problems and keep changing the script, but i think peter jackson is stil part of it.
